winter: (Default)
Dear Yulewriter,

I am dipping my toe into requesting again after a few years of just writing as a pinch hitter. I'll be delighted with anything for my fandoms, but here's a few prompts to get you started:

General dislikes: I'd rather avoid sex-related tropes and kinks this time (mentioning sex and relationships is all right, just no detailed sequences or sex-centered setups like A/B/O). Humiliation is very much a don't, in both sexual and non-sexual contexts.

The Green Bone Saga - Fonda Lee - Kaul Hiloshudon

I'd love anything with a young / pre-Pillar Hilo. That phase where he's reckless and pin-sharp and knows he can fall back on his brother and grandfather. Shenanigans, plotting, an early conflict with Ayt and her Horn and Fists? I love the Maiks of course, and Lan and Shae and Emery and really everyone, so whoever you feel like featuring. The flashback in Jade Legacy is my favourite part of the books. Alternately, older Hilo recalling those days and reflecting how much he had to change as Pillar? Dad!Hilo is always good too, with anything from newborns to argumentative people in their 20s who are far too much like him for comfort.

The Shadow Campaigns - Django Wexler - Janus bet Vhalnich and Winter Ihernglass

I love the way their brains work both separately and together. Just make them interact and I'll be happy. Maybe talking about a hypothetical future? Or their respective special traits? Gender as a concept? Or drop them somewhere they have to fight their way out of with their brains. Like a court intrigue.

云之羽 | My Journey to You (TV) - Gong Yuanzhi

I love the irascible poison genius fashion plate goblin to bits, so I'll be happy with any story centered on him. New illness or interesting poison threatening the compound? He needs something from Zishang or Ziyu and has to play nice to get it? I absolutely adore his dynamics with Shangguang Qian so more of their verbal sparring / her attempts to flirt would be delightful, especially if it's post-show and she's pregnant (or is she?) or dealing with a baby. Yuanzhi's bedside manner and research habits would be a great five things and one subject. Or is he really one of the people not allowed to interact with the outside world? Because he and Shangjue tracking down Wufeng plots in the jianghu would be delightful too.

Jianghu-wise for crossover potential, I'm most familiar with The Untamed/MDZS and other MXTX novels, Nirvana in Fire and Word of Honour. Feel free to bring in OCs as well if needed. Like, Yuanzhi has to have a tailor for all those fancy outfits...

(Please note that while I see the potential for a sexual or romantic relationship with Gong Shangjue, I don't want to deal with it in this story. Enmeshed and emotionally codependent, yes please.)

苍兰诀 | Love Between Fairy and Devil (TV) - Dongfang Qingcang and Dongfang Xunfeng

Are you getting a theme for sibling dynamics here? I'm an only child but I do like reading about family issues. Xunfeng is such a delightful bundle of said issues, related to his dad and otherwise. Feel free to set it whenever - pre-imprisonment, mirroring reflections during said imprisonment, Xunfeng's various plots, or the thwack he must have given Qingcang over the head when he finally reincarnated. If you don't want to write introspection, just drop them in some sort of trouble - mundane or magical - and let's see how they deal with being forced to work together to find their way out. Or maybe Qingcang turns the tables and tries being the mastermind to force Xunfeng to do his bidding for once?

Fandom specific DNW: Please no redeeming their father or making Qingcang in particular forgive him. The whole arc where he explicitly doesn't was cathartic for me.

All other cast appearances welcome. Someone probably needs to knock their heads together anyway. Again, no incest please.

Dear Yuletide writer,

Thank you, first and foremost. This is the first year I'm requesting all new fandoms, and all really small ones, so I was afraid I wouldn't get any story at all!
Dear Yuletide writer,

Dear Yuletide writer,

Thank you, first of all. I try to be a non-problematic recipient - for any of the prompts I listed, I'll be happy with anything in those fandoms :) My only firm squicks are animal harm (very triggering for me) and humiliation. I'd also prefer no explicit sex, and no D/s / alpha/omega / etc dynamics.

I love mythology, legends, binding stories into an overarching canon. Any exploration of gender themes and gender fluidity is always a plus.

My AO3 name is Beth Winter (BethWinter).

Rose of Versailles, Spooks, Sneedronningen | The Snow Queen - Hans Christian Andersen, Boss (TV) )

(Real life remains unstable with added cold, but hey, optimism.)

This year I wrote two stories, both of which I'm rather proud of:

The Emissary - Spirited Away, genfic

A twenty-years-later casefic with a teenage female OC narrator and lots of Japanese folklore - I had a moment of trepidation there before hitting post. But hey, it got fantastic comments and kudos, and recced to boot! It's making me feel much more optimistic about writing again, that's for sure :)

Between the Shadows - Takarazuka RPF, genfic

When I saw [livejournal.com profile] yumenotatsu's request go out for pinch hit, I remembered I did have a very good idea for it. I actually wrote a lot more, but couldn't quite find the ending without a 20K-word supernatural plot that I ran out of time to type...

And my story was written by the lovely Perch - Oniisama-E angst turning to victory, Ephemeral Flower Floating on a Reflection Made of Sound.
winter: (yuletide)
First of all, thank you to anyone who actually addresses my requests :) It's been a hard year, and thus all of the below are about my absolute favourite characters who triumph against adversity (well, except for St Just, but then I want a St Just that survives).

I read very widely - adventure, character studies, slice-of-life, comedy, mystery, drama, romance are all good. I love genderfluidity themes, meta and references to mythology and folklore, as well as the Takarazuka Revue. The only thing I very firmly won't read in stories is animal harm, though for this Yuletide I'd also ask you to scroll through any very graphic descriptions of violence and dismemberment, as well as graphic sex scenes and any descriptions of humiliating situations.

My AO3 name is Beth Winter (BethWinter).

Oniisama E, Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu / Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Rose of Versailles )
winter: (yuletide)
Look! I managed four stories this year, though all are short, and written in a haze of sleep-deprived exhaustion. Theme of the year: AAAAAANGST.

Dance of Mirrors: Rudolf, Elisabeth, Death

For [livejournal.com profile] hawkwolf who was my Santa before and requested focus on Rudolf and Elisabeth's relationship. This is very much musical-based, with less reference to how broken Rudolf was in real life. Their last Christmas, a last talk, a last decision. (Gen, mental illness themes.)

God and Chance: Les Miserables AU

The challenge was, more or less, "Fantine survives and marries Valjean". I managed to turn it into feminist angstfest deluxe, based mostly on the 25th Anniversary cast.

Radgeber für Verliebte: Tanz der Vampire

Again an irresistable (somewhat crack) prompt - Herbert pursuing Alfred with chivalrous rather than predatory tactics <3

At the Flip of a Coin - Downton Abbey AU for 2x08

I love the characters of Downton Abbey. I do not love the plot. This is a (short) attempt to make it more interesting, for [livejournal.com profile] fyrie who as usual shares my opinions ^.^
winter: (yuletide)
It's safe to say I'm enjoying my time off, in the "blissed out on the couch with complete collection of JD Robb ebooks" kind of way. Which means I haven't been reading much Yuletide except Those That Matter.

The Feats of Monsters (1914 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Tiger & Bunny
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Yuri Petrov | Lunatic, Mr. Legend, Kaburagi T. Kotetsu | Wild Tiger
Summary:

Yuri watched three times as a monster saved an innocent, only to realize that the third time he was the monster himself.

This is the fic that had me giggling far, far too much :D I loved Tiger & Bunny and thought Lunatic was hopelessly underutilised (but that might have been just because he hit all my buttons at once). I asked for gen, got just that and IC adorableness to boot.

Fortune, Fate, Freedom (2365 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Echo Bazaar
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Cheesemonger, Player (Echo Bazaar)
Summary:

Are we the sum of our choices, or are we our fate?

I got choose-your-own-adventure! Fantastic multi-branching storyline with my favourite Cheesemonger from Echo Bazaaar.

Dream to Dream (1509 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Echo Bazaar
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: The Delicious Friend
Summary:

A day in the life of a delicious friend.

This was a Treat (I'm not sure which of the above two was my main fic, and since my request went out for pinch hit anyway, that doesn't quite matter), and it's a gem. The author got the Echo Bazaar voice down pat, and there are kitties galore <3

And one rec, because this fic is FANTASTIC and even if you don't know the fandom, you should read it. And listen to the songs. Because yes, she wrote and recorded the songs to boot :D

The Big Gay Episode (8086 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Horrible Histories
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Rattus Rattus, Christopher Marlowe, Francis Bacon, Richard Barnfield, William Shakespeare, James I of England, Philippe d'Orleans, Chevalier de Lorraine, Elisabeth Charlotte von der Pfalz, Henry IV of England, Sir John Falstaff, Richard II of England, Eleanor Charlotte Butler, Sarah Posonby, Basil I of Byzantium, Michael III of Byzantium, Franz Schubert, Goethe, Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, Alexander Hamilton, Oscar Wilde, The Grim Reaper (Horrible Histories), Charles II of England, Samuel Pepys, Hortense Mancini
Summary:

The cast and crew of Horrible Histories CBBC takes the piss out of Gay and Lesbian history. Sketches include: “Internatyonal Man of Myfterie”, “The Lesbians who Don’t Do Anything”, “Henry Bollingbroke Doesn’t Like Dick”, and three new Savage Songs!

(Bonus: I somehow managed to miss the fact Horrible Histories was at the Proms this year. Full broadcast here, which is glorious and a good intro to Horrible Histories, and the usual suspects should watch it AT ONCE.)

I produced a mediocre number of stories for Yuletide, and at least two are of the "...it's you, isn't it?" kind, so feel free to guess in the comments!

YULETIDE

Nov. 12th, 2011 08:54 am
winter: (yuletide)
Nominations are finally open! And only open till Monday, make your minds up fast! Signups Monday-Saturday it looks like, and assignments just afterwards. Still little time to write.

I just nominated Rose of Versailles, Tanz der Vampire and Elisabeth, so these are already covered. Unless anyone wants to request Rosalie or Alfred, because I ran out of character nomination slots - this year you can only add four characters with your nominations.
winter: (yuletide)
I wasn't terribly productive (especially next to [livejournal.com profile] fyrie with her 11 stories *swats*), but then rather than snowed in for a week, I was doing semi-regular 12-hour days at work while overseeing the ongoing renovations of my future flat. (All Christmas cards I got this year mention the renovations. Am I babbling about them that much?)

Oh, and my main stories were written by Herself *swats again* I guessed from Raindrops, because that's our Amidio and Thanatos in the flesh, but Gazing into the Abyss fooled me. No fair changing style on me :P

I also got a lovely treat from Skazka - a Sandman snippet from the ending.

Yuletide was fun as usual. And I love the Kudos feature - the "Like" button that's so easy to click!

With my assigned recipient, I had to stretch myself to write an Alfred story. I have no idea where I got that Alfred from!

I also promised one to [livejournal.com profile] windstar127, and writing a young Rosalie was fascinating - I'd like to do more either with her or characters like her, young and innocent. I write too many omnipotent dark warriors ;)

And speaking of which, the response to this fic - written because the recipient's Yuletide letter just resonated with me - kind of floored me. 88 comments and kudos, on a story that's all about women (five to three men, and all main characters) and all about the powers and the different kinds of queens.

Snow, melting (1952 words) by faviconBeth Winter
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Alice/Hatter
Characters: Susan Pevensie, Mirana of Marmoreal, Mad Hatter, Mallyumkun, White Rabbit, Bandersnatch (Alice in Wonderland 2010), Alice Kingsleigh
Summary:

Alice isn't sure that she did the right thing by taking Susan Pevensie to Underland.

I like the fact I wrote this one :)
winter: (yuletide)
I got through the entire 2010 full-length archive in one big burst yesterday, so here are some favourites in alphabetical order by fandom :) Expect more when madness goes live!

Fandoms: Carmilla, Castle, Coldfire, Elisabeth, Historian, Mentalist, Rose of Versailles, Scarlet Pimpernel, V for Vendetta, Vorkosigan )

YULETIDE

Dec. 25th, 2010 10:38 am
winter: (yuletide)
Recs later, because I'm still hyperventilating over my two gifts :D

Gazing into the Abyss - Archduchess Sophie and Death, and oh, a perfect arc for her, showing her strength and mind and emotion. (Also, I believe I spy a Japanese Death ♥)

Raindrops - Yes. That would be MY Oscar and Alain ♥ Fwee doesn't begin to describe it.
winter: (yuletide)
Just for people who have been dithering: Yuletide signups close today, midnight EST, or 23:30 hours from now.

If you don't have an Archive Of Our Own account yet, here's what to do. Come on in, we have madness!
winter: (yuletide)
I like to think I'm a non-problematic Yuletide beneficiary - this year in particular I requested stories of the "anything with those characters will make me happy" variety. Optional details are optional!

Generally I prefer no mpreg, outright pornography (that is, clinical descriptions of actions without emotional content), humiliation or incest (see Sandman request for exception), and I firmly stay away from animal harm stories - if there is animal harm in the story, I will not read it at all. Apart from that, my tastes vary. Feel free to browse this journal to get a handle on the things I tend to recommend or write :)

Detailed requests - Sandman, Rose of Versailles, Vorkosigan Saga, Elisabeth )

I hope this suffices while not overwhelming, but should you want to know more, you can ask [livejournal.com profile] fyrie to relay your questions :)
winter: (yuletide)
Yuletide nominations are open :D

I've nominated RPF - Takarazuka Revue (I may actually offer to write some of it this time...), Elisabeth and Tanz as usual, Sandman, Rose of Versailles and Les Miserables because it's in my head.

One week of nominations only, so hurry up and sign up! It'll be my fourth time around, still as much fun as it was the first time :) It's the eighth edition, the first one run fully on Archive Of Our Own, and your one chance in the year to get (or write) a story for that wonderful source that doesn't seem to have much fandom at all.

I'm off to brainstorm requests because, um. I think I shall be signing up from either Takayama or Osaka. Oops?
winter: (yuletide)
In the confessing vine, this year I went slightly insane and wrote four stories in total - one for my original assignee (I lucked out and got BluePeople again, which meant I already knew what she'd like ^.~), one as an assigned pinch-hitter, and two treats for requests that caught my attention.

Elisabeth: Finality
Rudolf as an action hero! )

Ovid's Metamorphoses: Telê
Endings for Ovid's stories: Argos and Hera, Phaeton and Cygnus, Cadmus and Athena, Hermaphroditos, Kore and Hades, Arachne )

Elisabeth: The Last Song
Herzog Max meets Saeko )

American Gods: Coming to America: Venus
Imitating Neil Gaiman for the win )

My own main stories were written by [livejournal.com profile] windstar127. Mind you, I knew she was my Santa when she started to complain about having to look up Kacha stories in [livejournal.com profile] wao_wao's journal ;) Thank you again, m'dear, they're lovely!

My Babylon 5 story came from thenewhope, while the Cinderella vignette was from [livejournal.com profile] museofspeed. And last but not least, the gem of an Elisabeth story came from palmedfire, who may find herself the recipient of a NYR soon - the idea of Kimu in trouble is irresistible.
winter: (yuletide)
Sliding in under the wire on the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide rec train, just before the reveal :) Like before, Yuletide was a trip and a half this year. I was in a worse emotional state, but I managed, and I'll post about my stories after the reveal.

This year, I was exceedingly lucky - I got so many stories and treats!

Takarazuka RPF, Yami ga Hirogaru - Kacha and Asako during Elisabeth rehearsals, with Kacha catching a glimpse of the loneliness that Asako forged into her role. This is 100% my take on them, from which I conclude that my Santa is psychic. My Nanowrimo (which fell by the wayside because of the aforementioned events) had these two as main characters, and I could paste this scene into it with just changing character names ♥ Thank you for the telepathy, m'dear!

Takarazuka RPF, Father's Day with the Hapsburgs: A bonus story from my Santa - backstage hijinks and Kiriyan! Kiriyan being her wonderful self.

Babylon 5, The works of creation: Susan Ivanova in her youth, a series of snapshots of her growing up, and growing tougher and more beautiful.

Elisabeth, Do Not Be Afraid: I remain in love with this story. It's Death taking Little Sophie, who's such a Character in this one. And Death is kind, for a moment. ♥

Cinderella, PSA: And to finish it off, tiny Daily Mail article about the dangers of fairytales :D

Other recommendations:

Night Watch, Never be lost: This is exactly the story I asked for last year, Kay after the events of the book, and Kay being happy.

Tanz der Vampire, First Step: How Alfred falls into his story. Be sure to read the ending!

Elisabeth, Guiding Light: Rudolf and Death throughout Rudolf's life. The best parental take on it.

Arthurian Legend, The other way: Mordred and Galahad and making far too much sense ♥ I started writing a story for the same prompt, but couldn't finish in time - it might be a New Year's story....

Vorkosigan saga: The Rules of Barrayaran Sex: Perfectly in-character and exceedingly amusing. Cordelia is always love, and so is Aral and his socks.

Vorkosigan saga: Sworn in Silence: Aral's view of the moments just after his mother's and brother's deaths, a breathless chase and plot and a very poignant view of Piotr Vorkosigan.

Sandman: Ink Space Lucien's view of the new Dream. It's just a little heartwrenching, and full of a quiet love.

Sandman, Recoil and Grace - an AU ending for Lucifer and Morpheus that makes far more sense than it should.

Discworld, A place called home - The rarest thing, a Discworld fic that does justice to the world and the characters, and a perfect Drumknott (and Vetinari) study.

Discworld, Wizard Muddle: What happens in UU when Ponder goes on a vacation.

The Cable and Deadpool Yuletide Special: Epic. Just Epic. Read. Even if you have no idea who Cable and Deadpool are, because Deadpool is King of Backstory, thankyouverymuch
winter: (yuletide)
Since thus far today I've packed presents, taken out dishes from everywhere (I have no idea where they fit), phone-coordinated groceries for 10 people and put Lestat in a snow drift, I do believe it's Christmas Eve :)

Happy holidays, everyone! May they come with the least stress possible.

(And according to Is It Yuletide Yet, if you have time or don't do the Big Dinner of Doom until tomorrow, you can now write treats for Everyone as long as you have an Archive Of Our Own account.)
winter: (yuletide)
To start off, I'm not terribly picky. Optional details are optional, and I'll be happy with just about any story featuring my indicated fandoms and characters. I've tried to divide the request descriptions into my take on the fandom, my firm squicks (often based on somewhat rambling explanations), and very optional story ideas in case you're the sort of person who likes prompts; I've also tried to vary these prompts from single-word to detailed. Length, plottiness, level of detail, type of narration and rating - it's all up to you.

General request )

Elisabeth, Death )

RPF - Takarazuka Revue, Nagina Ruumi and Sena Jun )
Babylon 5, Susan Ivanova )

Fairy tales, Cinderella )

I hope this suffices while not overwhelming, but should you want to know more, you can ask [livejournal.com profile] fyrie to relay your questions :)

Yayuletide!

Yuletide signups are open. Information here, if you wish to give yourself a crazy challenge ♥

(And this year, fandoms include RPF - Takarazuka with a crazy long list of characters, and Babylon 5. How could I resist?)

Dear Santa letter upcoming once I have two braincells to rub together. There will have to be some... diplomatical phrasing.
