winter: (yuletide)
Sliding in under the wire on the [ profile] yuletide rec train, just before the reveal :) Like before, Yuletide was a trip and a half this year. I was in a worse emotional state, but I managed, and I'll post about my stories after the reveal.

This year, I was exceedingly lucky - I got so many stories and treats!

Takarazuka RPF, Yami ga Hirogaru - Kacha and Asako during Elisabeth rehearsals, with Kacha catching a glimpse of the loneliness that Asako forged into her role. This is 100% my take on them, from which I conclude that my Santa is psychic. My Nanowrimo (which fell by the wayside because of the aforementioned events) had these two as main characters, and I could paste this scene into it with just changing character names ♥ Thank you for the telepathy, m'dear!

Takarazuka RPF, Father's Day with the Hapsburgs: A bonus story from my Santa - backstage hijinks and Kiriyan! Kiriyan being her wonderful self.

Babylon 5, The works of creation: Susan Ivanova in her youth, a series of snapshots of her growing up, and growing tougher and more beautiful.

Elisabeth, Do Not Be Afraid: I remain in love with this story. It's Death taking Little Sophie, who's such a Character in this one. And Death is kind, for a moment. ♥

Cinderella, PSA: And to finish it off, tiny Daily Mail article about the dangers of fairytales :D

Other recommendations:

Night Watch, Never be lost: This is exactly the story I asked for last year, Kay after the events of the book, and Kay being happy.

Tanz der Vampire, First Step: How Alfred falls into his story. Be sure to read the ending!

Elisabeth, Guiding Light: Rudolf and Death throughout Rudolf's life. The best parental take on it.

Arthurian Legend, The other way: Mordred and Galahad and making far too much sense ♥ I started writing a story for the same prompt, but couldn't finish in time - it might be a New Year's story....

Vorkosigan saga: The Rules of Barrayaran Sex: Perfectly in-character and exceedingly amusing. Cordelia is always love, and so is Aral and his socks.

Vorkosigan saga: Sworn in Silence: Aral's view of the moments just after his mother's and brother's deaths, a breathless chase and plot and a very poignant view of Piotr Vorkosigan.

Sandman: Ink Space Lucien's view of the new Dream. It's just a little heartwrenching, and full of a quiet love.

Sandman, Recoil and Grace - an AU ending for Lucifer and Morpheus that makes far more sense than it should.

Discworld, A place called home - The rarest thing, a Discworld fic that does justice to the world and the characters, and a perfect Drumknott (and Vetinari) study.

Discworld, Wizard Muddle:  What happens in UU when Ponder goes on a vacation.

The Cable and Deadpool Yuletide Special: Epic. Just Epic. Read. Even if you have no idea who Cable and Deadpool are, because Deadpool is King of Backstory, thankyouverymuch
winter: (rebel - holy sinner)
I saw Wolverine yesterday and I was very entertained. No, it's no Dark Knight - but it doesn't have to be. Instead, it's got a plot, a rhythm (I wasn't bored once, and there was just enough action not to confuse), and surprisingly superior acting.

I also have a new person to keep an eye on. Taylor Kitsch was so lovely as Gambit that I may need an icon or three (and a browse through Wolverine/Gambit fanfic in a month or so). Daredevil, smart, trying to be badass but ending up doing the right thing - that's my Remy ♥

I was also impressed at how, for superhero action fare, the movie handled diversity without it being an in-your-face politically correct littany. I was especially wary of how it would treat the single prominent female character, but they got the perfect combination of not making her an unnecessarily badass action heroine and giving her her own agency. For better or worse, Silverfox was in control there.

(And there are baby X-Men. Who I need to watch on slow-motion and identify, because the only one I got 100% was Pietro Maximoff.)

So yes, the kind of superhero movie you can go watch and be entertained by, very like X-Men and X2. [ profile] bwinter seal of approval ;)

Bonus question: Can someone give me an Elisabeth idea, preferably something featuring Sisi herself with a side of Death? She wants fic, I'm fresh out of bunnies.

Meh again

I did see X-Men: The Last Stand, but it left me surprisingly meh. Lovely acting, but the script could use work and the directing definitely could - there just wasn't the magic of the last two movies. Respectable amounts of slashiness though. Charles/Erik 4EVA.

Today's the first day of chilly sun after three days of chilly rain. And I can't decide whether to cut my nails today to help in typing the thesis, or keep them vampire-long until tomorrow's album promo event.

Last interview questions, from [ profile] ciciaye:

Star Trek: Voyager and X-Men, manga style. Including a Quicksilver sundae and Magneto... okay, let's not go into what happened to Magneto in that one picture ^^;

Thank you, Fandom_Wank...

The last batch of the request drabbles from two weeks ago, though [ profile] fyrie's turned into something much closer to a full story. I still owe Van Helsing to two people, and am still working on it. Incidentally, it's not that I haven't been writing fiction lately: I have, but it's a long Tanz der Vampire series that will need to be posted (and read) in order, and is still missing the first two installments.

For [ profile] azarias: Bruce Wayne as a Jedi Sith apprentice. Part of the Will to Act verse.

Truth and the Bat, 200 words )

For [ profile] fyrie, Viktor from Underworld meets Draculea. Incidentally, apart from another drabble where Draculea muscled in while it was supposed to be VH!Vlad, this is the first formal posted outing of Draculea, also known as my historical!vampire!Dracula.

For all the Sultan's gold, 670 words )

*looks at the last post and its 100+ comments, of which most aren't between myself and [ profile] fyrie* I do write other things than vampires and Coldfire, you know. Alas, these are the weakest ones of today's batch...

Sandman, Death and Destruction )

OUATIM, Lorenzo and a stuffed toy )

BTW, drabble requests still open, with modifications. Namely, no vampires except maybe Underworld, and no Coldfire :P C'mon, people - Star Wars? Batman Begins? Tolkien? Anyone? Bueller?
winter: (Coldfire and mystery)
Look! [ profile] fyrie drew brilliant fanart for my Krolock and Lestat fic! Go and marvel and tell her how good she is!

And since I'm almost finished with the fake-title meme (and the two bits that are yet to be written will get their own post), here are the best bits from that and the blather-about-characters meme, the ones I want to put on my site sometime:

The Dark River: Obi-Wan and Dooku )

Von Krolock and Dracula )

Sirius meta )

Dream and Thessaly, from The Sandman )

In other news, I managed somehow to sign up for a multi-fandom Dracula essay for [ profile] idol_reflection. Due May 3rd, and for source material I'll probably use Prince of Many Faces and Dracula: The Dark Prince for historical Vlad, Bram Stoker, Murnau's Nosferatu if I can get it (Herzog's if I can't), Dracula 2000 as an example of a BAD vampire movie, Van Helsing and The Historian. Anything else you think I should include in my ravings on why Dracula freaking rocks?

The second batch of St Nick’s request not-really-drabbles. 480 words about Hob Gadling for [ profile] xwingace, 658 words about Sirius Black’s mother of all people for [ profile] amamiyarin. Next up: vampires and more vampires, because I still have to polish up [ profile] arabwel’s vignette.

Sandman’s Hob Gadling gets a little Christmas spirit )

Tom Riddle and the Hogwarts Express )
winter: (Rising Stars - Fear of Fire)
Just three so far, alas. To my defense, work absolutely pwn3d me today just after I wrote the last post - I ended up staying way longer than regular work hours and I still have a busload to do tomorrow. On the upside, I also have tickets for the 18th for my next dose of fanged crack, so yay. Said crack has also inspired drabbles #2 and #3, because I'm on a permanent vampire high here. Both titles from "Vor dem Schloss/Wohl der Nacht/Wohl dem Mann", the last song in act 1.

Mexico, seasonal )

Bruce and Ducard, and giving in )

the long dark night of Obi-Wan Kenobi )

In other news, a very happy birthday to [ profile] _leareth and [ profile] rkold!

[ profile] fyrie asked me for this a long time ago. I managed to use all elements of her challenge. 900 words.

Being a much-delayed gift or handsel for the lady [ profile] fyrie, with the author's apologies

In honour of Halloween, I have the Sin City characters in drag. This is a belated response to a bunny from [ profile] guede_mazaka. I had some trouble with it, and it's still more of a sketch or snapshot than an actual story.

For those who care: I do have a NaNo villain now. Yay me.

Fandom: Sin City
Summary: A night in the middle of A Dame to Kill For, in a world where things are just that little bit different.
Note: [ profile] guede_mazaka's fault.
Rating: R for mature themes

A momentary breather (actually, the day's shaping up better than I thought, and project!boss praised me just now), and a request drabble from too long ago. For [ profile] kyrre: Bruce/Ducard, demons. 100 words, about 10 minutes tops.

In the night, the mountains are silent. The campfire ricochets off the glaciers like neon and halogens at the entrance of Muder Alley. "I do not believe in demons."

Ducard’s fingers wrap around Bruce’s wrist before checking his grip on the rope. They’re close enough to hear each other’s heartbeat. "You should. You’re becoming one."

Bruce steps off the ledge into darkness. The rope is a whip, a command, finding purchase where there should be none. In the instant before gravity and legend grip him, a thought flashes through his head.

He can’t be a demon.

Demons fall.

Bat recs

winter: (Rising Stars - Fear of Fire)
I have to be in the office in an hour, but there's time enough for a quick rec or two. Batman Begins, [ profile] heridraconigena, two short stories with a fresh charm to them, and a tired, feeling Ducard that's the human, not the legend. Full of other little touches, too, like a glimpse into the man we first meet as Ra's Al Ghul.

Nowhere Place

The Witch's Pyramid

I’ve been thinking – and yes, this is more Bat-meta, just because I missed everyone else’s due to the film not being out yet. Anyway.

It’s the perennial question of book vs movie canon. In this case, it’s a big characterization difference between the two, and in the main character at that.

How to tell two Bats apart )

In other news, a list I’m on has been discussing Myers-Briggs personality types. I’ve done the full test long ago, and I’m a picture-perfect ENTP. Q, Bugs Bunny, Garfield – take your pick. Go me.

Summary of today: paycheck yay. Boss back, also yay. Workload, NOT yay. I barely found the time to finish this.

Fandom: Batman Begins
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Bob Kane, DC, Christopher Nolan. I am none of these people.

Summary: In the world of the movie, where are the familiar faces? What's going on behind the curtain, in the wings, beyond the stage? Seven drabbles, requiring varying levels of Bat-canon knowledge.

I just saw Batman Begins again, in IMAX no less. Mmm, Liam with crystal-clear surround sound <3

random notes mostly for fic purposes )

and more notes )
winter: (Default)
I meant to sit on this fic longer, but Ducard was having none of it. And BatmanBegins!Bruce is too whipped puppyish in a crazy obsessive way to resist. For what it's worth, the fic kicked my arse three ways from Sunday: I giggled at work, lost my thread of thought completely a dozen times and bothered everyone with coming up with a five-letter word for "touch" that'd start with S, because I pick strange moments to be a perfectionist.

Everything belongs to DC Comics, Christopher Nolan, and is Christian Bale's and Liam Neeson's fault for being too good actors.

Summary: Bruce takes Ducard's advice to pay attention to his surroundings literally. Could be Bruce/Ducard UST if you squint. 1440 words.

There should be more, but my eyes hurt, I've studying to do and an extra cat to keep an eye on. Meh.

4 Kingdom of Heaven, 3 House of Flying Daggers, 4 quasi-Sandman, 3 random crack )

Comment, credit, the usual kit&kaboodle. I'll try to have more funny ones soon...

After watching Constantine, I'm re-reading Hellblazer and Lucifer is next on my list. Ergo, iconses. I'm particularly proud of the "I'm going to EAT your BRAIN" one :D

5 Constantine, 5 Hellblazer, 3 Lucifer and 2 Gaiman )
