As an end to a hellish half-week, I'm at the office at noon on a Saturday. No time like the present...

To reiterate, meme rules:

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in (or think I should), and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc). I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.

Arabwel: Once Upon a Time in Mexico as done by Tolkien )

Trobadora: Coldfire superhero AU )

RKold: CCD in a Gundam/Space Soap Opera type AU )

Sukeban: Pirates of the Caribbean in the Middle Earth )

That's enough for today, since I'm through with the reports as well :) Other four to be done later.

Eurgh. Hence, meme, ganked from [ profile] selenak: 10 of my favourite characters and what kind of relationship I'd be likely to have with them.

Back in spring, I mentioned a Modern Quendi fic I was writing. I finally got down and wrote the last scene. Everything else is from May-ish. Weird, fragmented, stylized.

Constructive commentary more than welcome - I have no idea what I did here, honest. I have some other scenes, but I thought those work best.

Fandom: Silmarillion

Pairing: Fingon+Maedhros or Fingon/Maedhros, depending on personal preference

Woo. This is my first post as a citizen of the European Union. Yay for us.

Cinema today was literally a toss-up between Starsky&Hutch and Kill Bill II - but S&H won the coin toss. V. funny, v. reference-filled (Easy Rider scene cracked me up), Snoop Doggy Dog rocked and I don't think they could have made it any gayer without upping the rating.

Party yesterday, or rather a quiet night spent talking and taking photos, with occasional wine and munchies. [ profile] finwion accompanied me on the bus, with results available in his journal. I need to post some of those photos when I get them - P. had a digital camera, and at least one of his pictures has me looking very FĂ«anorian. All red hair and death-glare.

[ profile] tehta rocks, and her fics rock, too. In her honour, an outtake for her fanfic Flawed and Fair:

"Flawed and Fair" by Tehta is the one and only inspiration for this. Some lines lifted directly. It's probably best to read F&F before reading this. Quenya names used, since the princes of the Noldor would speak Quenya between themselves. "Findo" is my own idea of Fingon's Quenya epessë, seeing as "Cano" is already taken by Maglor.

Dedicated to Tehta, Ekfelion and Glorfindel. With congratulations to Ekfelion for finally getting some.

In the Flawed and Fair universe, Maedhros and Fingon are the Gay Icons of Beleriand. At least in Salgant's songs. )

[ profile] finwion is being a pest. On top of not being able to concentrate on a single story (he's telling me at least three at the moment), he's also disparaging my ability to draw. I mean, come on. I've never claimed to be a visual artist, and I haven't touched Painter in over a year. I happen to think this is rather nice:

In other news, have written a little thing that's totally [ profile] tehta's fault, but will wait to see if she wants me to burn it or post it.

Fandom: LOTR/Silmarillion
Genre: Gen, atmospheric
Rating: PG, tops.
Characters: Faramir, Boromir, Maglor

Disclaimer: Everything belongs (in some cases verbatim) to JRR Tolkien and partly Christopher Tolkien. This particular take on Faramir and Boromir is based partly on the movies - I find the idea that "Gondor needs no king" fascinating, much more so than book-Boromir's blind acceptance of Aragorn's claim. Maglor would like to add that he dictated the songs to me in proper Westron, but I suck as far as poetic translation is concerned.

For full enjoyment of this story, you should probably read the Silmarillion (and especially Chapter 9: Of the flight of the Noldor and Chapter 19: Of Luthien and Beren), but I have done my best to make it accessible to someone who has but read LOTR (and even only seen the movie).

Or, why it's not a good idea to go looking for pronouncements of the future if you're the heir to an old kingdom that happens to be Mordor's direct neighbour )

As I mentioned on the blog, it's time to face the music. Just about everyone on my blogroll has a livejournal now, and I haven't been keeping up with their non-lj musings anyway. So this will now be updated much more frequently as my fandom/whatever notebook, while whimsy and some Real Life stuff will stay in the blog.

Case in point: my big Silmarillion thingie. I've been wibbling about it for a month now. It will possibly be called "Battle Scars" or "No Journey Without Scars".

Just now, the not-quite-main character Taithrenwen (called Taith by everyone who knows Sindarin better than she does) poked me and decided she wants an introduction, and preferably before Celegorm finishes waxing lyrical about the weather in the prologue to the first story in the series, "All Along the Watchtowers". She didn't let me go until 500 words later.

if you want a sneak peek... )</lj-cut

winter: (identity)

It all started so innocently. I was following links from one of my LOTR stalkees' journals and came upon a fanart of an elf whose name rang a semi-distant bell. I realized I actually remembered bits of the Silmarillion (for a definition of bits as "all the bloody details" except never being able to tell who were Finarfin's kids and who Fingolfin's), and distantly wondered if anyone had ever written fanfic based on that.

Well, I always get new fandoms or resurgences of old ones before an important exam. The only adverse result is that I seem to have acquired another muse.

The blind CIA agent spent the last two days glaring eyelessly at the tall, red-haired and manually disadvantaged Noldor. The elf, on his part, seems quietly amused in the moments when he's not brooding. He's the most brooding muse I ever had, and that's counting pre-Sakurazukamori Subaru. [foresight mode=Elrond] I see much angstfic in the future...[/foresight]

Well, I can't write Tolkien-style worth a damn. So?

So watch this space. Because I've started to draw again >>>_<<<
