Nominations are finally open! And only open till Monday, make your minds up fast! Signups Monday-Saturday it looks like, and assignments just afterwards. Still little time to write.

I just nominated Rose of Versailles, Tanz der Vampire and Elisabeth, so these are already covered. Unless anyone wants to request Rosalie or Alfred, because I ran out of character nomination slots - this year you can only add four characters with your nominations.

Wouldn't characters who've been available on the previous years still be available even if nobody specifically nominated them this year, as long as the fandom is nominated? I need to check, because Alfred is the only character I will be requesting from Tanz.

Nope. As far as I understand, only nominated characters will be available for request/offering this year. They've also explicitly said you shouldn't use "Other Requests" to req unnominated characters. The solution's easy though, just nominate Alfred yourself! :P

I know that's the easy solution, I just want to be sure if I indeed need to do this or if I can use some free slots to nominate fandoms I want to be available because I would totally write them.

In the previous years, when it was not under AO3, I remember characters cumulated: all the characters who had ever been nominated in any year were available as soon as the fandom was nominated. But I haven't seen a clear indication if it's different this time and you have to nominate a character this year also if you want him to be available, no matter how many previous Yuletides have had him available.

(I do know that optional details mustn't be used to request unnominated characters. I'm not that evil!)

You have a couple days before noms are over, so you can wait a bit. You probably have most people that'd nominate TdV on your friends list, so maybe just ask on your journal? I'm thinking about offering TdV, but unfortunately I decided I'd rather support my other fandoms instead (two of which hadn't been nominated at all afaik, and the third didn't have any of my character noms).

I'm not familiar with previous' years nomination processes, but I've heard that matching character requests/offers was really problematic. One of my oldest fandoms is a videogame with 108+ characters, with most of the fans having very specific requests, so in the end, they just got matched up to other fandoms. ...Which kinda sucked, so I'm cautiously optimistic about this new system even though it's got its flaws too. :\ But at least the nomination process is a lot easier!

Well, it's not a huge deal for me - I have mainly one fandom I'd really like to nominate to make sure it's available though I probably won't request it myself, and I can cover that since Beth's got Elisabeth taken care of. I just assumed that if anything is nominated, then all the characters who've been nominated in previous years will be available. A good thing to know it isn't so instead of having unpleasant surprises in the sign-up!

Yeah, it might be to reduce the difficulty of matching characters that they made it like this... A bigger chance that the characters who'll be requested will also be offered if there aren't a zillion characters to choose from.

They completely overhauled the nomination process, alas. Personally I don't like it, I liked the wide casts :(

I can understand they may need to make some changes so that the system will work, but I would prefer it if a wide range of characters could be made available more easily, especially now when the nominations period is over so quickly that many may miss it. Oh well, I'll then just nominate Tanz myself as well. You did cover Rudolf when nominating Elisabeth, right?

So I nominated Casablanca (which was approved pretty quickly), and then Seal of Roses and Silver Rose Chronicle.

I figured the latter two were Zuka musicals that 1) I liked, and 2) a decent number of people knew about. I'd really like to see some Zuka-related fiction that's not RPF.

And thank you for nominating Elisabeth! To be honest I kind of banked on the hope that someone else would nominate it, so I didn't want to "waste" a nomination ^^;;
