winter: (emote - give me coffee)
Firm resolutions about writing a proper travelogue have fled in the face of work and a crippling headache that kept me in bed for most of Saturday and Sunday. I'm hoping a slew of pictures and captions will do instead :) In this part, the first days in Vienna and the Opera House.

No making fun of my crooked photos, plzkthx )

Coming up next: Viennese churches, or why I need an image stabiliser on my camera.
winter: (rebel - holy sinner)
Less than four hours at the mall today because I had to rush elsewhere, but productive ones :> I have 3 gifts already and plans for more. And This&That (knicknacks shop) has the cutest angel line. I mean, AWWW.

My new desktop ornament for work )

Note to self: order all online things for self tomorrow.
winter: (portraits - purple)
I do love mushroom-gathering, and due to weather conditions I didn't get to do it much this year at the lakeside. I jumped at an invitation to do so in the forests near Warsaw, and while our haul wasn't too impressive - we got there a little too late in the day - I got a lot of photos of the inedible mushrooms people left behind :)

7 mushrooms and 1 dog )
winter: (krolock - gott ist tot)
Over a week later, but I finally got to it :) All of these were taken at the June 21st promo event for the Polish Tanz der Vampire cast album, which one can acquire internationally here or here.

The light was great and natural, which let me take flash-less photos, though the crowd and inopportunely placed speakers made it a bit more difficult. All in all I took 175 photos - here are 40 of the best ones :) I'm especially proud of the sequence of von Krolock enfolding Sarah in his cloak (pictures 18 to 21).

Warning: 40 large pictures (500x666) under the cuts.

27 potraits of von Krolock )

Herbert times 5 - this guy just doesn't photograph nearly as well )

Sarah, Ewigkeit dancers, Alfred, Magda, finale dancers - 8 pictures in total )

Conclusion: vampires are pretty :D

Fireworks

Jun. 25th, 2006 10:26 am
winter: (Coldfire and mystery)
Last night there was a big midsummer festival at the riverside. Lou Bega I don't care about much, but the fireworks were done by the guys who did the Torino Olympics pyrotechnics, and they were appropriately spectacular.

5 examples, largish )

And no, this isn't computer-generated - all with pyrotechnics :D

A brief clip of what it looked like in action.
winter: (krolock - muahahaha)
Sweet Lucifer and all nine circles.

I would just like to announce that [livejournal.com profile] fyrie is the most effective fangirl ever.

Photographic proof )

And yes, this is backstage at the theatre, after a frigging fantastic show that Herbert stole except for the bits that Von Krolock pwned completely despite his cloak falling off mid-Unstillbare, and we were dragged there by a coat-less Herbert. RIGHT.

Squee.

I'm now officially a vampire. Got bitten!

Yesterday in words )

Yesterday in pictures )

I didn't get any decent photos of myself and K, but at Inna Strona there's a shot of us from the back as we watch the cops do their job. Note my princess Leia hairdo :D
winter: (krolock - finsternis)
I went to this one just for the purpose of taking pictures, but sort of ended up getting an autograph on my programme and an autographed poster ;) No idea how that happened...

Alas, this was a much smaller event and with a shorter before-signings part - there was only Lukasz Dziedzic, Malwina Kusior (Sarah) and for some reason Marcin Wortmann (second-cast Alfred) instead of Jakub Moleda. No dancers this time, and no Jakub Wocial (Herbert) - apparently this was only decided yesterday. Curses. The light was much better, with actual sunlight, and I wanted to get more Herbert photos!

For documentation's sake, not!Krolock, Sarah and not!Alfred )

On the other hand, I got quite a few photos of my favourite vampire... )

And my main goal in attending today's promo - ta-dah!

Lukasz Dziedzic & Malwina Kusior - Na Orbicie Serc (Total Eclipse of the Heart)

Live, in costume and in character. With the most charming vampire bite ever at the end. Alas, people jostled me all the time and a lamp got in the way, but I think it didn't come out too badly. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hotbeast for allowing me to maneouvre :D
winter: (rebel - devil wept)
Eeep! Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] applegnat! Many happy returns, and please don't mind my idiocy, because that's twice now that I've meant to do birthday posts for the whole day only to go to sleep without posting them.

Here, look. Even Herbert's laughing at me.

Then again, he laughs easily... )
winter: (emote - give me coffee)
I went to the cat show in the Blue City mall today. Ogled a lot of gorgeous kitties, did some shopping (Lestat is currently sprawled on my bed, blissed out on valerian and catnip) and took photos.

(And incidentally, I know there are a lot of strays that need rescuing like my two boys did. But one day, I want a great big white angora or Maine Coon to cuddle up with and put a diamond collar on.)

12 beautiful pedigree cats under this cut )
winter: (portraits - purple)
Frst of all, I spent 3 hours at the hairdresser's yesterday, getting new highlights done. Way more mocha, with a hint of titian, and here's hoping the darker colour holds this time. Before, I had the hair in the icon - cinnamon/copper depending on lighting.

Now it looks like this )

Recommendation the first: A few weeks ago, [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka posted a random snippet of an extremely dark Harry torturing Lucius, the first thing I've seen her write for HP ever. I (and others) pleaded and begged until she wrote a little bit more. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Black Road - Epic, amazing, terribly dark and yet making so much sense in the way that perfect tragedy does. Harry is dead, but he's back, with a contract with Lucifer and an agenda that terrifies even the most seasoned Death Eaters. Lucius features prominently, so does Draco, Snape, Sirius, a heartbreaking Remus, and a host of other characters damaged by the war, but still so much themselves. If you only read one Harry Potter fic this year, let it be this one.

Recommendation the second: [livejournal.com profile] alighiera finally posted that Coldfire thing! *squees* Probably won't make much sense unless you've read the books, though.

Recommendation the third: [livejournal.com profile] fyrie did it again. More Tanz/Buffy fic, this time without brain-breaking vampire domination (don't worry, the next part makes up for it), but with an utterly adorable semi-original character whom I've had the honour of naming. (I also picked VK's last name in that one. Canon has him as Alfred, but Johannes fits him much better, don't you think?)
winter: (tea ceremony)
Creative-wise, I'm building up momentum to get past another pivotal action scene in Flowers (NaNo), polishing up the Christmas origific, and hopelessly stuck on Ara's Lorenzo thingie. To unblock everything, I'm planning a meta essay tomorrow, but shhh.

In the meantime, not-so-wildlife on the Sopot beach:

Big bad white feather things )
winter: (laws of magic)
Too bad I'm not active on the NaNo forums this time, because I just made a sig-ready avatar/doll of Kirill. It's not perfect - no frilly shirts, alas...

In other news, the parade was something of a dud - almost an hour late, barely ten minutes long, no marching skills to speak of, and a motorcycle broke down. But hey, pretty horsies ♥

6 photos under cut )
winter: (devil wept)
First of all, a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] concordantnexus. His musings about Canadian winter got me thinking about Polish autumn, and how gorgeous this one has been. Sunday before All Hallows, I went through the neighbourhood wild park to the other cemetary, and on the way there I took photos. See below for rowans and apple orchards and crows and birches - all of these are at most a 20-minute walk from my apartment.

25 512x384 photos, so have care )

In other news, my heart goes out to [livejournal.com profile] arabwel and [livejournal.com profile] astarise, for varying reasons. Tomorrow is another day, ladies.

All Hallows

All Hallows, or All Saints: the Cemetary Day, the day of remembrance. This is the first year that I'm both able and equipped to document it digitally.

Five weeks ago, I brought a small furball home.

Now the furball is bigger. Very much so.

Lestat the Teenage Vampire )
winter: (give me coffee)
Got the camera cable, and a rather decent SF novel, off M. Therefore, photos.

Lestat the Cat )

More about Lestat tomorrow, since his story's fairly worksafe. Let's just say there are some people I am going to kick if I ever meet them. Hard.
winter: (give me coffee)
It's been brought to my attention that despite the fact that during her time at the lakes, the Female Parental Unit got a lot of gorgeous feline photography done, I haven't mentioned it yet. So here they are - the two best-looking cats this side of the Milky Way.

lots and lots of pictures )

And if that's not enough feline goodness, see my encounter with the tree beach kittens here.

This is long overdue: an exhibition of what a cute cat Tonio is:
