winter: (devil wept)
[personal profile] winter
First of all, a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] concordantnexus. His musings about Canadian winter got me thinking about Polish autumn, and how gorgeous this one has been. Sunday before All Hallows, I went through the neighbourhood wild park to the other cemetary, and on the way there I took photos. See below for rowans and apple orchards and crows and birches - all of these are at most a 20-minute walk from my apartment.

In other news, my heart goes out to [livejournal.com profile] arabwel and [livejournal.com profile] astarise, for varying reasons. Tomorrow is another day, ladies.

These are lovely! And oddly enough, look kind of like Maryland! Birches and scarlet leaves. Though I wonder what kind of bird it is in the third picture?

Beautiful photos! The trees are lovely! I didn't realize that crows came in colors other than black. ;-D The ones we have here in Iowa are HUGE. And mean.

I can nvere remember that it's rowan.... in Finnish, it's called Pihlaja... never had any Rowan vodka but now I want to try :D (It also makes yummy candy :D)

we've already had snow twice here, but it melted away so it is rather ugly here :(

Isn't that "kawka" a "jackdaw"? Wiki link on jackdaws. "Wrony" are "crows" and they are usually black. "Kruki" are "ravens" and they too are usually black.

American Crows and American Ravens are both black. However, due to N American laws that prevent the keeping on them as pets, many movies and commercials use trained African White-Necked Ravens instead. :)
