In between the thesis thing (which is slowly gaining momentum - I might actually get 10 pages done today), I'm browsing through YouTube, mostly looking at musical stuff, but not exclusively. My list of favourites is available here, but since it's cluttered, here are a few particularly worth watching:

A kickass and very well-vidded Van Helsing vid - from a now sadly defunct site, which is a pity, because I'd love to send feedback to the vidder.

La Fête des Fous - Bruno Pelletier in the musical Notre Dame de Paris. I like the way he moves.

Dracula - Nous sommes ce que nous sommes - worth watching, if only for Bruno Pelletier's outfit and makeup. My inner Draculea just about had a heart attack.

Gerard Butler auditioning for Dracula 2000 - OMG the hair is going to EET ME!

Elizabeth the musical, Japanese trailer - such pretty costumes, and the Death in this one is going to be von Krolock :D

John Owen-Jones, The Music of the Night - hands down my favourite Phantom. He has almost the exact same voice as Lukasz Dziedzic, too.

Tanz der Vampire - Unstillbare Gier. No words, none. If only Steve hadn't killed himself.

There's also an Elizabeth production by TOHO with Yuichiro Yamaguchi as Death, and that was what it said on the link I followed to that clip - probably wrongly though :)

Steve Barton died in 2001, from an overdose of heart medicine mixed with alcohol. He was in a heavy depression phase of his bipolar disorder on top of other health problems, but still, such a loss. He was about to go star as Von Krolock on Broadway, and I just know he'd have taken the town by storm. After his death, they got Crawford instead, who turned the production into a laughing stock with cheap slapstick gags. Let's just say that if I could experience any moment in history, seeing Barton onstage would have been a very strong contender :)

God, don't get me started on Michael Crawford. It's amazing how much better Phantom of the Opera is when he isn't playing in it.

You're preaching to the choir here. Thanks to the wonders of YouTube, I've been able to see a selection of Phantoms, and Crawford isn't fit to tie John Owen-Jones' shoes. Suffice it to say that a week ago, I heard a 19-year-old Polish boy sing most of Phantom far better and with tons more emotion than Crawford ever could. /obligatory Wocial plug

(And speaking of Phantoms, Hugh Panaro's MOTN always makes me laugh with how much fanservice he manages to cram into it :>)
