May. 7th, 2006 04:04 pmIn between the thesis thing (which is slowly gaining momentum - I might actually get 10 pages done today), I'm browsing through YouTube, mostly looking at musical stuff, but not exclusively. My list of favourites is available here, but since it's cluttered, here are a few particularly worth watching:
A kickass and very well-vidded Van Helsing vid - from a now sadly defunct site, which is a pity, because I'd love to send feedback to the vidder.
La FĂȘte des Fous - Bruno Pelletier in the musical Notre Dame de Paris. I like the way he moves.
Dracula - Nous sommes ce que nous sommes - worth watching, if only for Bruno Pelletier's outfit and makeup. My inner Draculea just about had a heart attack.
Gerard Butler auditioning for Dracula 2000 - OMG the hair is going to EET ME!
Elizabeth the musical, Japanese trailer - such pretty costumes, and the Death in this one is going to be von Krolock :D
John Owen-Jones, The Music of the Night - hands down my favourite Phantom. He has almost the exact same voice as Lukasz Dziedzic, too.
Tanz der Vampire - Unstillbare Gier. No words, none. If only Steve hadn't killed himself.

Date: 2006-05-07 10:30 am (UTC)La FĂȘte des Fous - Very nice, and very interesting.
Nous sommes... - Very very nice, with the possible exception of that weird-looking beard. Still, rawr!
Dracula 2000 - OMG EYELINER!!!
And is that a wig? I'm tempted to say Gerard might have come to that audition straight from the sets of "Attila", because that's the hairdo/beard combination he has in the movie. But "Attila" was released in 2001, a year later than "Dracula 2000". So my guess is, really baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad wig.
He did look preety cool as Dracula, though, in spite of the movie being only average. He's a very good actor. *pets him*
Elizabeth Jp. trailer
That looks like an all-female cast to me, and Death is still lovely as hell if you ask me. Is there a full-length performance video or a music torrent floating around?
Phantom, MotN - *purrs*
TdV, Gier - Waaaaaaaaah me wants! Why can't there be a video shoot of this version of TDV??? *sniffles*

Date: 2006-05-07 10:37 am (UTC)My first reaction to Pelletier's Dracula beard was the same, but it grows on you. And yes, that's Gerry's Dracula hair - Attila was a miniseries, and I think there were delays in getting it aired.
And if you root around my YT favorites, there's an almost full Tanz, and the girl's still uploading more - at the moment, all I don't have from the second act is the full Tanzsaal, Ewigkeit and Draussen ist Freiheit reprise (okay, and minor Alfred-and-Abronsius stuff, but who the hell cares about that? :P). Steve's utterly fabulous in the first act finale - playful and grr and almost unconsciously seductive. Also hitting on Alfred like nobody's business, possibly to compensate for the production's rather lacklustre Herbert.

Date: 2006-05-07 10:42 am (UTC)Gerard had shorter hair in the movie, but that mop did look familiar. I saw both, of course. That man has some lovely eyes... and inner thighs! Rawr!
Ok, I'll poke around some more. I should probably get myself an account just for the heck of it. Tanz is worth it, after all.
And yes I know what you mean about everyone hitting on Alfred. *eg* It's even in the album, if one is listening carefully enough. I demand to know if the Polish version kept that part, btw!

Date: 2006-05-07 10:53 am (UTC)In the Polish version it's a little more subtle (possibly because Dziedzic is a more refined, less primal Krolock than Barton), more enticing Alfred towards him than putting the moves on him himself, but oh yes, it's there :D I especially love that bit in Tanzsaal at the end, where Alfred's completely mesmerised by Krolock's eyes until Abronsius pokes him to do the candlestick thing.

Date: 2006-05-07 10:59 am (UTC)Subtlety is not necessary a bad thing, you know. And I bet your Von Kroloch is sexy, too. *eg*

Date: 2006-05-07 11:18 am (UTC)And hmm. Let's just say my usual pose when Dziedzic is onstage consists of one hand at the base of my throat, the other clutching the armrest of the seat for dear life. The voice, the movements, the cloak - and he's not hard on the eyes, either :D

Date: 2006-05-07 11:25 am (UTC)(Though I also wouldn't mind Hugh Jackman and Gerard Butler fangirling each other, if you know what I mean...)
*laughs* You know, if you jump him in mid-act and molest him you could get arrested. So be careful, ok?

Date: 2006-05-07 11:29 am (UTC)I'm still sending him a dark red rose with a black ribbon, though. And another one for Wocial (Herbert), because he deserves it, and because with the Phantom reference, he'd probably Punjab-lasso Dziedzic if he didn't get one...

Date: 2006-05-07 11:39 am (UTC)I will get a chance to meet him at the CD promo event on the 19th, though. Mother has received detailed instructions on how to take the best possible photos if he decides to obligingly bite a few necks. And then gah, there's the 100th show on the 20th, and two more album promos. If he sees me at every single one, that might also clue him in that I'm a leetle obsessed.

Date: 2006-05-07 11:43 am (UTC)I do recall you having stated you'd stalk him thus. *nod nod* So for your mother's sake, I hope she'll follow those instructions to the letter.

Date: 2006-05-07 11:56 am (UTC)I'm a big fan of the Japanese Elizabeth production. There's been five IIRC so far, by the Takarazuka (all-female theatre) troupes. Of these, I think the first one, by the Yukigumi troupe, is the best. Certainly that Death was the most compelling.
Here's a clip from the Hanagumi's production, where Death first meets Elizabeth. And another one, where Death encourages Rudolf to try to take the throne from his father.
(Still, the Yukigumi Death was better!)
I had no idea Steve Barton had died. I met him once, when I was in college. He was an alumni of Univ. of Texas (where I went to school) and came back on occasion to teach workshops (and visit his family, who lived a few counties over). I went to a meet and greet/ Q&A session he was at. Very nice man. I always thought it was so glamourous that a Texas boy got to go and make his name over in the European theatre. He was really popular at the time because of Phantom of the Opera, but he never really took here in America.

Date: 2006-05-07 12:07 pm (UTC)Steve Barton died in 2001, from an overdose of heart medicine mixed with alcohol. He was in a heavy depression phase of his bipolar disorder on top of other health problems, but still, such a loss. He was about to go star as Von Krolock on Broadway, and I just know he'd have taken the town by storm. After his death, they got Crawford instead, who turned the production into a laughing stock with cheap slapstick gags. Let's just say that if I could experience any moment in history, seeing Barton onstage would have been a very strong contender :)

Date: 2006-05-07 12:31 pm (UTC)(And speaking of Phantoms, Hugh Panaro's MOTN always makes me laugh with how much fanservice he manages to cram into it :>)
I also thought it was so sad about Barton........
