If you or anybody you know has benefitted from a psychiatric diagnosis or treatment, in the past or the present, then please, boycott War of the Worlds. Don't go see it. Don't rent it when it comes out on DVD. Don't go see or rent any movie which stars Tom Cruise, or which he directs, or produces, or has any discernible hand in. And then pass it on--talk to your friends, put this in your livejournal, anything you think will help. Just don't let this guy into your wallet.

Sorry for spamming today, but I figured that there are a lot of people on my friendslist who'll share this particular sentiment. Also, it's too bloody hot for doing anything except reading bad romance novels.

Any 'religion' invented by an SF author to make money has got to be crazy. Why anyone would get into it is beyond me.

There's a great quote from some s.f. biggie (I'm thinking it was Heinlein, but I'm not sure) on the subject of ol' boy L. Ron. It's something along the lines of "We all got together and told each other stories, but Ron seemed to believe his when the beer wore off."

That's always summed up Scientology for me, but then again, I'm a horrid bigot <3 <3

You're right, I think that was RAH who made that quote.

Scientology always sounded too fringy/scary to me - any faith that wants you to pay for 'levels' of enlightenment is seriously offtrack IMHO.

It's great to take personal philosophy from anyplace you find inspiration, I rather like the original Jedi attitude toward life and the Force. The difference is that our worthy Mr. Lucas isn't demanding we believe his version of things. Or threatening us if we decide to change our beliefs. Alas, Scientology isn't the only religion to get into that mode of behavior.

The Dalai Lama once professed that while all major faiths at their heart had much to offer humanity, most people 'got very little out of them'.
