Short review: I want to have Robert Rodriguez's uber-violent kablooey babies <3 <3 <3

Long review: Great fun, great story, great actors and great visuals. Sure, some of the actors are nigh-unrecognizable under the make-up (Mickey Rourke, Benicio Del Toro), but they still do a brilliant job - not in the least because of the noir-style voiceovers. Evil Elijah? Rocked my socks. I'm finally able to believe that Clive Owen could possibly cut it as James Bond. All the ladies - respect.

(Even though Sands and El still win as most badass of badasses, hands down. They could go against Darth Vader and I'd bet on them.)

And it's beautiful. Sure, it's violent, but the white blood: style and purity and oh my. Those little dabs of colour? Love them. The framing is perfect. Everything just falls in place.

It's such an enjoyable romp. I've heard it described as sexist, but frankly, it's the noir convention - and even then, there's all the badass hookers to break it. A woman in a noir film can either be an unseen wife, a victim, or a femme fatale. The difference here is that the femmes have guns. Women also animate all of the action - whatever the men do, there's a woman behind it; without the women, they'd just sit there and rot.

Also, Rutger Hauer x Evil!Elijah's severed head = OTP!!!!!!111!!!!!eleventyone!

Also, on the Rodriguez vs X/1999 front: OUATIM had eyeballs. Sin City has severed heads. Any bets to what X/1999 violence fetish Rodriguez will take on next? ^____^

In other news, Polish movie releases suck. Not only did we just get Sin City and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy this week, but Batman Begins will open in late July and I'll have to wait until August bloody 18th to see Mr&Mrs Smith. Just in case you wonder why I'm not fangirling or participating in discussion :/

...I've been tossing around a Sin City/Mexico(/BDS?) thing for a month now. Only problem with Sin City is the men don't stay alive long enough to get some slash going:P

I haven't read the graphic novels, but Dwight and Jackie Boy are pretty yummy :D I could see a sort of alternate thingie set before their storyline together, where, say, a Mexican crime lord comes to town, Jackie harrasses him in his official role, Dwight gets hired to kill someone or just keep an eye on the action, and then the Sanzelle hits the fan...

I think I need a mantra. I must not plot. Bunnies are the mind-killer. Plot is the lesser death that brings total obliteration of cognitive capabilities. I will face the bunnies. I will permit them to jump over me and through me....
