Literature and squeeing

winterI've been good all week and didn't spend a penny except on groceries. So of course when I ambled down to town to check out the bookshops, I should have really expected this.
I could have, perhaps, resisted a brand-new Pratchett book. Even if PTerry dropped fascinating hints about it and mentioned copious amounts of Vetinari.
*insert pause for mad Vetinari fangirling here*
Waterstone's had the first-day special edition postmarked covers and 5 euro off the cover price.
I've inhaled Going Postal in 5 hours flat. It's brilliant. It's dazzling. It's the old Pratchett and the new Pratchett, and OMG I really want to have Vetinari's babies, only they'd take over the world and forge Rings of Power probably. I won't spoil it for you. Go and buy it. NOW.
It's also almost entirely unlike The Truth, which is good because I was worried it'd be a carbon-copy.
And to top off my day, I went into a second-hand bookshop that normally doesn't have comics. And lo and behold, there was a pile of extremely affordable near-mint DC-verse TPBs. I ended up walking off with both volumes of Knightfall, Knightsend and Death In The Family. There was also Prodigal, but I'm not as fond of it as the Knightfall arc, because it doesn't have Azrael in it.
My Visa's weeping. But for a good cause.
And hey. I save on food. LOTS.

It's probably in the stores already, but I'm still crying my eyes out, I won't have the money before Monday.

I laughed out loud at the bus stop, I kept chortling throughout, there are the obligatory chilly moments and the "OMG why haven't I thought of it before???" ones. And it's partly about con artists, and Vetinari. It's a wonderful way to escape for an afternoon, that's for sure.

I've checked out the one comics/manga shop here and while it's pretty well-stocked the prices are extortionate - local mangas cost 20 euro or 13 euro for the "discounted" ones. That's per volume! I might break down and buy a poster or two, or maybe the plush Nyarlathotep because it's adorably ugly, but not more than that.
