Inception, and other things

I finally saw Inception and enjoyed it very much. I like Leo in general, Ken Watanabe is always awesome, and Tom Hardy caught my eye back in ST: Nemesis and has only grown into his potential since :) (Btw, Eames/Arthur recs, anyone?) I also loved the fact it wasn't about the beginning of any romance, though Marion Cotillard was awesome.

My theory about the movie under the cut:

It's all a dream - the inception/extraction shared-dreaming mechanisms included. It's Cobbs' dream, and he lost his wife, or maybe just a girlfriend, or maybe he lost faith in the idea of falling in love. Or maybe he had too much curry and fell asleep while watching La Vie En Rose.

Why? I dream like this. My dreams are convoluted plots with an ensemble of fascinating characters, and I've gained more than one plotline from them. And yes, I've dreamed a sci-fi version of a noir gangster movie where the symbolism is in the background (the alleyways of Mombassa, narrower and narrower, and Saito the guardian angel suddenly appearing, or the plane tickets to flee the US and who was calling at the kids anyway). The most difficulty I've had with turning some of them into workable stories is filling the background, because my dreams do contain things like a single privately owned corporation being in charge of the world's energy sector. Or an upper-class Brit sorcerer owning a llama. (His name is Victor. He refuses to tell me what the llama's name is.)

I wonder if this means that Christopher Nolan dreams like I do.


Also, it's less than a week until my vacation. From late Friday till Sunday the 22nd I'll be off at the lakes, with intermittent mail-checking via mobile. Should anyone need me, smoke signals may be useful.

YAY INCEPTION. I like your theory! I've heard a couple theories that the whole thing is a dream, even maybe a dream inception'd at Leo so he can get over whatever his trauma is and go back to his kids. Not sure what I think, yet!
