New Year 2008
Jan. 1st, 2008 09:00 pmNot a bad party, surprisingly :) Now, two days of work to get through before I'm off to Budapest.
And now that Yuletide authors have been revealed, I can tell you which one I wrote. It's an utterly obscure fandom, but I've tried my best to make it outsider-accessible in a way that might make the story enjoyable also for someone unfamiliar with it.
Chasing Titania - based on Boris Akunin's Fandorin novels (in particular the first one, Azazel/Winter Queen).
(And incidentally, I feel utterly inferior. That brilliant Neverwhere story I recced was written by
calliope85, my recipient. I am significantly unworthy.)

Date: 2008-01-02 11:18 pm (UTC)I also wanted to stop round to sort of apologise for requesting such an obscure fandom, which has meant your fic hasn't got the wider recognition and praise it so deserves. I'll be reccing it to high heaven as soon as I get my recs post together, I promise! If the in-pre-production-according-to-the-IMDB movie actually ever materialises, I guess the Fandorin series might get an English-language fanbase at last, and you will rightly be hailed as prophet and hero of the new order.
(For information's sake - the last Fandorin novel published in English was under the title 'Special Assignments', which contained the two novellas 'The Jack of Spades' and 'The Decorator'. No idea what equates to in the original publications, I'm afraid! The first two Sister Pelagia novels have also been translated. I check the 'new releases' section in the bookshop for the next translated volume almost daily, because I am rather sad like that.)
(And finally: thank you so much for your lovely comment on my fic, and for your rec! The Neverwhere fic sort of ate my brain over a period of weeks, and now I feel faintly unnerved whenever I see the London Eye; I'm unutterably pleased that other people now seem to feel the same ^_^)

Date: 2008-01-03 06:34 am (UTC)I have to admit I've read the books in Polish, so I was afraid of getting speech patterns wrong ^^; I should probably get an English edition of Winter Queen at least.
(And you have a Jesper icon! The fact I don't is a great oversight. Best Rudolf Ever.)
