winter: (elisabeth - letzte tanz)
[personal profile] winter
Ohdear. They'll be playing Elisabeth in Berlin from April onwards, so I kind of think I'll be there with bells on sometime in May :> Depending on the cast, I guess - my favourite would be Jan Ammann for Death and Jakub Wocial for Rudolf and second Death, but generally, I like most of the possibles. Except Haldor Laegreid.

So that'll be thrice I'll be seeing Elisabeth next year - got two sets of tickets for Budapest already. (And possible plans for... more far-off regions in the autumn, but those are nowhere near being finalised.) And Tanz der Vampire at least once, Budapest again.

Phantom of the Opera in Warsaw, I'm sorry to say, fizzled out completely. My firm favourites were cut down - one for being unable to attend an audition, fair enough, but the other for "lack of acting ability". Which he does have, on top of an operatic baritone that leaves everyone in the dust.

On the other hand, that does leave him free for Beauty and the Beast in Gdynia (also in the spring), which has the potential for being gorgeous if they finally get their act together - they're a decent theatre, but no magic to it so far. I hope it'll end up being something interesting.

And on top of it all I should probably finally drag my carcass to London for Phantom, Les Mis and anything else that happens to be on. And I still haven't seen some of my must-see people live - currently Stanley Burleson tops that list, followed closely by Pia Douwes and Ethan Freeman.

Say what you want about this hobby, you're never out of places to travel to.

Just musing though - remember how anal Theater des Westens directors were about having a Polish chap as swing? Maybe they've learned their lesson, though.(This from the company who had a cast one day with a Swedish VK, Polish Abronsius, English Alfred, Hungarian Chagal, Norweigian Herbert and Italian Sarah...)

*giggles* I love how international European musical theatre can be. ;) Hopefully they'll also realise there that it's a good thing.

You wouldn't believe how much the directors bitched about having a Polish actor at first. Apparently, a certain chap only got into the show because Cornelius Baltus actually said "look, we need him in this production, so screw you" ;)

Do they have something specially against Polish people? Or are they generally xenophobic and bitched equally about all the others, starting from their 2nd Krolock who is Swedish?

Yay for Cornelius Baltus, though. :D (I love that name. How can anyone have such a name? It sounds like it's straight from a Harry Potter book or some medieval thing.)

I think generally, it was because he'd only done one major big production, he was only 20, he'd never performed in Germany before, and he was just making his big break. The other cast members from around Europe had been doing German musical theatre for years, especially Mathias, who did Tanz before.

Now, I find it hugely amusing that they had him rehearsing to play VK on special request because they thought he could do it, and he currently covers both Herbert and Abronsius ;)

True, that. And I think they've given up on hopes of full German casts ;)

Have they ever had one? Anywhere? Seems to me it's lucky if more than half of the cast actually have German as their native language. ;)

I sincerely doubt it these days ;) I mean, just look at the current Tanz line-up. At least 10 nationalities, if not more ;)

Oh, that is a load of poo :( And you know, the only reason I actually got a grown up job (aside from living away from home) was so I could get money for my musicals addiction. Sad but true.

As I am drowning in midterms and dreading my finals, I'm beginning to wish I'd gone for a grown-up job instead too. I'd at least be making twice what I'm making now & possibly have time to go to Europe. *pouts*

That's something I and my friends have often been wondering. If we manage to see Máté in real life, exactly how are we going to manage to approach him and say anything that makes sense? And not have really stupid grins on our faces, or giggle hysterically?

I also wonder exactly how I'm going to approach Szilveszter on stage door if I get a chance. I'll probably go mute and just stare. Well, the good thing is, I hear he doesn't say much on stage door either. :P

Maybe I'll just focus my energy on catching Kata, since I hear she's absolutely lovely with fans.
