Dear Yuletide Santa
Oct. 19th, 2007 06:48 am*looks at Yuletide assignment and kind of falls over* At least I didn't get
fyrie. And I do have a challenge like I wanted.
EDIT: Huh. Looks like everyone will get a rematch, which is a pity - I liked that request :/
Dear Yuletide Santa,
In general, I'm easy. I like both emotional scenes and action ones, and I enjoy a variety of literary styles. I'm a sucker for trivia, and I certainly don't insist on romance and/or sex in stories (not that I object, but gen is perfectly fine). And if you do put it in, my firm squicks are few - incest is the major one of the ones likely to be used as a literary device. Otherwise, no focus on humiliation (even humorous) and I'll be happy.
Tanz der Vampire
I've seen just about all cast versions of this musical except Estonian, but if I could ask you not to model your story on the Broadway version, I would be very much obliged. My favourite Krolocks are Lukasz Dziedzic, Steve Barton and Géza Egyházi, with the favourite Herberts being Jakub Wocial and Keigo Yoshino.
My own take on them is probably best found as the Roses for Lucifer series, but I'd welcome any interpretation. As long as it lets Krolock retain his dignity (even slightly scuffed), because otherwise I'll have several upset muses glaring at me. If you need more ideas - his humanity? Father-son interaction (at any stage of their lives)? Any of the scenes described in Unstillbare Gier?
Elisabeth (musical)
Again, the only casts I haven't seen are Finnish and Swedish. Since the interpretation differs dramatically at times, you can either name the cast or have me giddily guess whether a particular Death is blond or dark-haired ;) My favourite Deaths would be, in no particular order, Maki Ichiro, Máté Kamarás, Yuichiro Yamaguchi, Ayaki Nao, Masaaki Uchino, Stanley Burleson, Saki Asaji and Tamás Mester. Which is not to say I'd turn down a fic with Felix Martin or Szilveszter Szabó, of course - I've seen and loved them all.
And this also goes for any other character you care to pick. There are the death scenes that happen on stage - both Sophies, Rudolf, Elisabeth. Or perhaps Duke Max, Franz-Joseph, any of the Hungarian revolutionaries? I'm also familiar with people from Elisabeth's life who didn't get featured in the musical, so you can take that route as well.
Daphne du Maurier - Rebecca
I prefer the musical to the book - if you haven't seen it, it's supposed to be quite similar to the Hitchcock film. Or if you want to expand your horizons, I'll have both the German cast album and the English demo with most of the songs uploaded in this LJ entry by tomorrow :) The main difference is the take on the narrator's journey - instead of being imprisoned like Maxim's caged canary, she frees him by finding her own strength as a woman, her own way to oppose Rebecca. If you want symbolism, Maxim stays in Manderley while she's the one who goes to London and calls him from there to tell him the truth about Rebecca.
Still, I'd be happy with Rebecca's take on the Narrator in either version. The only thing I'd ask for is no mysogynism - please don't make Rebecca unlike herself. Ruthless and selfish, yes, probably more than a bit deranged towards the end, but most of all no regrets about not being a perfect loving housewife. For me, Rebecca is nonconformist and very proud of it.
EDIT: Rebecca English demo and full Vienna soundtrack
William Gibson - Neuromancer series
In Mona Lisa Overdrive, Molly/Sally mentions a quick run-down of her post-Neuromancer life. The fight she loses can be any of it - from the obvious one that left her with her scar to walking out on Case, to any event that occurs to you. Might even be the one before, the way she lost her Johnny.
In conclusion: Dear Yuletide Santa. I wish you luck. You may need it ;)
