I'm almost done with my vacation - the train back to Warsaw is tomorrow afternoon. All in all, I think 7 days was an ample amount of time for Vienna, because I got to all the museums I wanted to, and over the past two days my feet have started to hurt a lot :)

To blog about in the next few days: photos (800 and counting), Tanz der Vampire anniversary concert, Rebecca (new musical by Kunze&Levay, starring Uwe Kroger, Wietske van Tongeren and the amazing Susan Rigvava-Dumas) and Die Fledermaus at the Volksoper. I think I can chalk this one up as a productive holiday.

Also, retroactive and advance wishes of very happy birthdays to: moustachios, artela, flamebyrd and shoiryu. Please forgive my Vienna-induced absent-mindedness!

(Oh, and met up with alighiera today for a few hours of musical geekage. And Melange and Apfelstrudel, which I'm starting to be addicted to. Can anybody tell me how to make Melange at home?)

Yep :) I've got the original recording and an English demo of it, still looking for a video boot. They condensed it a bit but did go true to form, with an absolutely stunning (and creepy) Mrs Danvers stealing the show. And then they set everything on fire :D

I do believe they based it more off the Hitchcock version of the film, because of some aspects of it that I've heard have been tweaked, but from what I've seen, tis spiffy looking :)

Alas, I packed the photo, but didn't get past his rabid fangirls :( Then again, the mood he was in, dunno if he wouldn't take offence in it... high form of "I AM teh STAR" despite Susan stealing the show.

On the other hand, alighiera did recount to me an amusing incident when Uwe, playing Colloredo in Mozart, tripped on his costume and fell down the stairs...

Turns out that if you're a student (or a member of the musical club here), you can get 11-euro tickets half an hour before the show, out of all that are left. This has led to alighiera seeing Mozart quite a few times and me having envy.

Though really, we NEED a video boot of Rebecca, because the sets and lighting are seriously amazing. Especially once things go boom.

I have to admit it's a very relaxing break after 5 months of running on mostly pure adrenaline :) I think I'll make those breaks a twice-yearly occurrence.

The secret of the Melange is all in the beans. :-)
Secret granny recipe: take a fairly intense blend of coffee, brew medium-strength coffee out of it, and mix it with hot (not boiling!) milk in a ratio of 2:1 to 1:1. A bit of foamed milk on top, like with a cappuccino - the difference is that the cappuccino is a third each of coffee, milk and foamed milk. If you put whipped cream on top instead of foamed milk, you have a Franziskaner, if you leave off the foam you get a Großer Brauner or a Verlängerter.

Rebecca as a musical? And they really get to set things on fire?! I´ll have to tell my mother; she loves that book/movie. How is the music for it?

The icon's from the Hungarian production of Elisabeth, the most historically realistic one. Walking through Hofburg and Schoebrunn especially was an exercise in pointing out bits of their sets :)

The music is rather lovely - it's Kunze/Levay, so of course it'd be good. I've got an English demo somewhere, with Uwe and Pia and Maya (whee!), though for the actual Austrian production they changed the girls to Wietske van Tongern as the narrator, a sweet thing with a lovely strong voice, and Susan Rigvava-Dumas as Mrs Danvers, who's a show-stopper. I'll write a full review of cast and pyrotechnics soon :)
