Youtube just shorted out my brain

I booked my Vienna trip this February (to the 10th anniversary concert of a Certain Musical) early, before the cast was announced. In the interval before we got the cast, I often joked with Mother that with my luck, Von Krolock would end up being Uwe Kröger (something of my personal German musical nemesis, aka the guy I love to hate).

The VK at the concert will fortunately be Thomas Borchert, whom I adore for his voice, presence and mesmerising eyes, but um. I think I jinxed it.

Uwe Kröger and Maya Hakvoort doing Totale Finsternis. Which would work better if she wasn't half a head taller than him.

As an antidote (though remaining with German musicals), have some Borchert singing a song from Mozart!. My perennial favourite Máté Kamarás does a wonderful job with another one.

(And in other musical news, my OTHER favourite, Maki Ichiro - see icon - gave birth in October to a baby girl. Mother: played Death and Elisabeth. Father: played Death. I think this is one kid who's going to be raised on Kunze/Levay lullabies :>)

I refuse to click that link with Uwe and Maya, even though I love Maya. I heard that during one of the Musicals on Ice concerts, Ethan and Maya did quite a lovely job on Totale Finsternis, so I'm going to try and track that down somehow instead.

(And hee! on two Deaths spawning. Many congrats to Maki and her hubby!)

I have to admit he's not halfway as bad as he should be. Croaky in some bits, but appropriately passionate in others, and Maya rocks to high heavens. Between not-that-annoying Uwe and Maya, it's worth clicking. (Though am v. amused by the way he bites her - standing on tiptoe while she arches back :>)

Heh. I have to admit I'm feeling a bit burned on Uwe at the moment. I previously rated his Phantom as "not-that-bad" before, but upon re-listening, it was one of the most hideous renditions I've ever heard. o.o May check it out on mute to watch him biting her on tiptoe, though. Hee.

Choreography's rather ingenious - no chance of him looming behind her, so instead he goes down on his knees in front of her at those points. I rather like that bit. Stupid brain sometimes finding him strangely attractive *shudders

Btw, have you seen this video with Lukas Perman and Marjan Shaki singing Draussen ist Freiheit? If you ignore their clothes, not too bad - I was worried about Lukas but he's sounding more Alfred-like than I realized he would, I think.

Right. Um. You see, I'm not getting to see Rebecca because they're not performing it the week we're there, even though the theatre will be available for some nights when there's no concert. So I think my brain's blocked out the fact that normally, that musical would be there to see, so that I won't be so disappointed. ;-) But yay for you getting to see it, at least. :D

See, you should have timed your journey later :P I must say it was one of the factors that made me chose this time (the other deciding one was the availability of leave for myself and Mother). Not a fan of Uwe or Rebecca, but I need to see at least one normal German musical live.

At the same time I'm so happy for your trip but my skin is definitely green because of jealousy. (grins) I'm going to have to move to some part of Europe so that it's easier to get to kick-ass performances.

(mind boggles at the background of Ichiro's baby) That little one is going to have a very interesting childhood.

It's my first time (though I'm also planning a Berlin trip in the spring to see Tanz der Vampire) :) I also have to catch Máté live at some point...

At least she won't have career-choice dilemmas ;) Genetics alone should make her a Takarazuka shoo-in.
