Meme ganked off
etrangere:
New to fanfic?
Past my fifth anniversary of published fic, but I've been writing it for about 10 years.
Prolific?
Middling. I'm no
guede_mazaka, but if I'm on a roll, I can do 2K words a day easy.
Keyboard or biro?
Whichever's closer. Keyboard's preferable.
Caffeine?
Marks & Spencer's Kenya tea lately.
Location?
I do my best writing at work or in college :) Either way, when I'm supposed to be doing something else.
The start of the writing process?
An image, an object, a single line of dialogue. It has to percolate on the backburner of my mind for a while before I have a fair idea what'll happen in the story, but even then sometimes my stories manage to surprise me once I'm actually writing them.
Much suffering involved?
On my part, not much, unless related to overdue requests :) But I do like to torture my muses.
Favored topics?
Symbolism, gender issues, parent-child relationships.
Most fun to write?
Crackfic, of course. At least I don't have to worry about sense :)
Attitudes towards comments?
Adore them. I have a folder full of comments I got on fics and re-read them when I'm feeling down. Anything's good, but I'll kill for constructive criticism. I don't get nearly enough of it.
Attitude towards sharing fic with RL friends and acquaintances?
Mother betas some of my work. I don't go around advertising my work, but if someone asks, I'll show.
Beta or no beta?
Lately,
fyrie :)
Plot?
I'm still working on my plotting skills regarding narrative balance etc. I think I've got the hang of emotional arcs, but actual action takes work.
Title?
My bane. If at a loss, I go with something pretentious in a foreign language.
Smushy or smutty?
Used to be neither. With my current set of muses, it's both, though I still prefer quiet and/or gritty.
Summary?
I'm a business writer by trade. Those are easy.
Funniest fic?
All my crack stuff. Yami no Kopi-raito got good reviews, as well as Chibification and several others.
Most popular fic?
My Get Backers stuff still gets reviews, probably because the fandom's smallish and gaining new readers. I've fallen from my X-popularity days, but I don't miss them. Small fandoms rock.
Best and Worst?
There are lots of fics I'm proud of, Roses being the latest just because of the scope. As for worst... uh, there was this multipart songfic series with Subaru as a drag queen nightclub singer :D
Coulda been Contenders?
??
Strengths
Symbolism, descriptive writing, dialogue, characterisation.
Weaknesses?
Action and smut, narrative balance (I tend to overdo some sections and skip others that would add balance to the piece), pretentiousness.
Dirty Little Secrets?
I used to be very, very ashamed of writing smut of any kind, even if just sensual touching. Then I acquired vampires. Nuff said.
