My brain has been eaten, again

One of these days, I'll learn not to listen to strange musicals in foreign languages, especially if said musicals are written by Michael Kunze.
Elisabeth hasn't consumed my creative brain the way Tanz did, partly because it's a narrative whole rather than the open-ended ending of Tanz and partly because I like von Krolock and Herbert better thanthe pretty snarly blond guy Death, but the audio and visual layers are rather overrun. The worst thing is, I saw two productions back to back - Vienna revival, with the supremely snarly and vicious Kamaras Mate, and Takarazuka Snow Troupe, with the elegant and slow-poison Maki Ichiro. I have a whirlwind in my brain. And there's an outstanding Yuletide request for Elisabeth fic, which I'll be filling as soon as I sort out the Deaths in my head.
Snow Troupe's the one production that doesn't have clips on YouTube, but here's the Flower Troupe version of Yami Ga Hirogaru with Haruno Sumire as Death. And as a comparison, Die Schatten Werden Länger from the Vienna DVD. See if you can spot all the things Kamaras Mate does differently.

Date: 2006-07-20 02:11 pm (UTC)The yaoi potential is staggering, especially with the Japanese versions of Death as the ultimate biseinen: http://www.musical-world.de/DVD/DVD-AIDA/DVD-Elisabeth/Applause.jpg and onstage kisses. The Vienna version has Death and his (male) angels in drag :>

I'm not so much a yaoi fan myself, though I am starting to see some occasional subtext. Friend is, though, and I think she's been drawing original comics/manga with m/m relationships in it. Haven't seen her for a long time, though, and I've lost a bit of track with what she's doing now. From what I can find of her presence on the net, yup, she still is.
(I do believe she's based her own Death character on the one from Elisabeth; check out this)
And now I'll stop before you think I'm just plugging other people's work at you.

Date: 2006-07-20 02:13 pm (UTC)I might need to rewatch the Vienna version for proper ficcing. My head is spinning from the Japanese prettiness. The revue at the end was the best - everyone comes out for their bows waving what amounted to pompoms with Austrian eagles and doing some sort of strange elegant gothic cheerleader choreography O.o
