Lestat is closing this Sunday

With 39 "official" performances, I believe it did even worse than Crawford's version of Dance of the Vampires. Considering Elton John's comments about a new kind of vampire musical with "no garlic, no crosses, absolutely no dancing vampires", I can't help but chuckle a little. Like von Krolock in my icon.

I pity the cast, though. They assembled such a lot of talented people, it's not their fault the music was trite...

Me too. And the IwtV movie wasn't that bad either. It just went downhill once AR started to think she is much smarter than anyone around her and doesn't have to listen to editors anymore. Or managers. Or anyone with common sense who told her not to agree to the QotD movie.

Alas, the IwtV movie was ruined for me by a, Tom Cruise (NOT my Lestat - not the right kind of craziness), and b, Antonio Banderas - while I love the guy, a seventeen-year-old auburn-haired cherub he ain't. As far as I'm concerned AR went off the deep end somewhere around Memnoch the Devil and hasn't been back to the sane side since...

The thing I will never, EVER understand about AR is that she complained bitterly about Tom Cruise as Lestat, because he wasn't "right" for the part but she waxed lyrical about great Antonio Banderas was. So much so that she wrote him his very own Gary Stu in Servant of the Bones.

She's a special kind of crazy.

I actually agree with her dream-casting of Lestat (a young Rutger Hauer - that would have been the right craziness), but yeah, Banderas was a decent vampire. Just NOT Armand.

I saw the movie before I read the book, so I was safe on the interpretation side.

Memnoch was... weird. I thought she'd go back to normal afterwards, but well... I can't even bring myself to go past the first ten pages of the final book.

I dragged myself through Armand, Pandora and Vittorio on autopilot, not retaining anything except some of the early sequences of Armand (the icon-writing idea was cool as a metaphor). Didn't read anything after that, I'm afraid. She killed Armand and then resurrected him, didn't she?

You quit while the books were still reasonable. Compared to what came after Armand, those three were stellar writing.

She killed Armand at the end of Memnoch. Then apparently realized that she'd offed a fan favourite and brought him back in his own book, complete with religious revelations. *sigh*

A Lestat Musical was such a genius idea, too, you know, one of those ideas that you think, "Hey, if they do it RIGHT, it will be the AWESOMEST thing ever," but you just KNOW they aren't going to do it right.

They better put that shizzle on DVD, asap.
