I hear they rescued the collection of old clocks. I haven't heard about the carillion.

It's eight hundred years old, with the most recent card in its history being the spiritual cradle of the Solidarity movement, which was why I was christened there. And it's lovely inside - very solid, austere, still mediaeval. Thankfully there was only a copy of Memling's The Last Judgement inside these days, since the original is in a museum...

Aiii, how sad. And that is a beautiful church. I swear, you Europeans are so lucky with architecture and elegant old building.

Gdansk in particular is lucky - just about all of old Warsaw is post-war reconstruction, but the destruction skipped Gdansk. The bits by the riverside are a wonder, with mediaeval granaries still standing :) I love that city so.

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Cool old churches need to be cherished. Can they rebuild it?

It definitely will. The evening news carried more detail - apparently the roof fell in, but stopped at the ceiling without damaging it structurally. A similar thing happened to our parish church two years ago, and they had it fixed in two weeks flat. For an ancient church like that, it'll be longer, but it's the richest parish in all of Gdansk :)

Looks like a very impressive burning down of not much at all, so far, luckily :) I just hope they'll rebuild the carillion if it got damaged - carillion music is my particular weakness.

They'll definitely rebuild - not that much structural damage, and a century ago it got into a much worse fire before being rebuilt. Thankfully no-one was hurt.

It is - thankfully it wasn't as bad as it looked. They're still looking for causes, but suspicions are on a cigarette from one of the people fixing the roof >:/ Idiots.
