(In which Louis is whiny, Lestat is very grabby, and no attempt at denying the slash is made.)

The sad thing is, there are things that could be so good about it. Hugh Panaro makes a good Lestat, petulant and bratty, and aware of his own handsomeness. Jim Stanek is nothing to scoff at, and appropriately stuck up and whiny like Louis should be. But there's just no saving these lyrics and music at all.

Lestat premiere segment - mostly Elton John and others blathering, but also clips of I Want More, Welcome to the New World and whatever song Armand sings at damaged!Lestat. Armand is also surprisingly evil and decent, but clearly unused to fangs. Vampires should not lisp.

I agree, except for Armand being unused to fangs. In this version they don't show their fangs.

Oh, I'd love to see your opinion of it :) I remain unimpressed by the music and lyrics, but the actors seem to be doing the best of it.

And if there are no fangs, what's with the lisp? My first thought was fang-trouble, because it surfaced in our version of Tanz der Vampire - Sarah especially was singing her last (vampirised) lines with a very pronounced lisp.

I'm not sure what the lisp is, but perhaps it was a really odd character choice? Drew Sarich seems pretty good otherwise, so I'm not sure.

IIRC Armand's Russian via Italy, so maybe it's just their attempt at giving him an accent. Still, the singing's pretty and emotional, the way I like it :)

That's possible. And yes, the singing and acting seems quite good, and the sets are gorgeous, so I'm sure it'll be at least tolerable.

Two decent actors struggling against the music. I'm starting to suspect that if Elton John hadn't set out to prove that he can do better stupid dancing vampires, it might have been a lot more watchable.

There wasn't anything particularly special, though a better Unstillbare than last night, turning bitter and sobbing by the second chorus, with poison at the end. Spellbinding, truly. Apart from that, two dozen cosplayers and meeting hotbeast, finally.
