In memoriam: Stanislaw Lem

Stanislaw Lem passed on today.

If you don't know who he is, get to a library already. The Star Diaries are genius, and then it gets better.

Is it me or great SF authors keep dying one after the others lately ?

I guess it's that the classics were all of one generation, and it's their time now.

The Star Diaries are my favourites, and the Cyberiad, but that one has some absolutely untranslateable gems. Pirx is rather good, too.

For me, it's just gah - the Cyberiad was one of my favourite "fairy tale" books in childhood, and it only got better once I grew up.

Today's paper had the whole front done up in mourning, too. And in line at the post office, people noticed me reading it and we all went "Geeze, he was suppposed to be forever!"
