New hair + fic recs

Frst of all, I spent 3 hours at the hairdresser's yesterday, getting new highlights done. Way more mocha, with a hint of titian, and here's hoping the darker colour holds this time. Before, I had the hair in the icon - cinnamon/copper depending on lighting.

Now it looks like this:



Recommendation the first: A few weeks ago, guede_mazaka posted a random snippet of an extremely dark Harry torturing Lucius, the first thing I've seen her write for HP ever. I (and others) pleaded and begged until she wrote a little bit more. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Black Road - Epic, amazing, terribly dark and yet making so much sense in the way that perfect tragedy does. Harry is dead, but he's back, with a contract with Lucifer and an agenda that terrifies even the most seasoned Death Eaters. Lucius features prominently, so does Draco, Snape, Sirius, a heartbreaking Remus, and a host of other characters damaged by the war, but still so much themselves. If you only read one Harry Potter fic this year, let it be this one.

Recommendation the second: alighiera finally posted that Coldfire thing! *squees* Probably won't make much sense unless you've read the books, though.

Recommendation the third: fyrie did it again. More Tanz/Buffy fic, this time without brain-breaking vampire domination (don't worry, the next part makes up for it), but with an utterly adorable semi-original character whom I've had the honour of naming. (I also picked VK's last name in that one. Canon has him as Alfred, but Johannes fits him much better, don't you think?)

The only bad thing about highlights is the amount of time needed to put them in. It takes almost two hours just to put all the silver foil in my hair!

Don't remind me *sigh* ... and my hair is shorter than yours. I usually get less strands about a thumb's width thick, though. The problem is waiting for the dye to work, because my hair is quite dark.

The problem with my hair is less the length than the ridiculous thickness - apparently it takes as much as twice the amount of strands as a "normal" customer of the salon ;) And I wish I could go very dark... for some reason the blonde always ends up peeking through.

My hair is very fine, but my aunt has your problem so I know what you mean. My problem is that it can easily get burned, which means I have to use teh expensive brand of Wella Professional dye in order not to damage my hair. But it's a "sacrifice" I'm more than willing to make, because I am not cutting my hair short again unless it's a matter of life and death. I also usually use a dark red that might even look brownish in some instances, so there's no great contrast between the natural colour once they start growing.

I think they might be a little visible here...

That's you in the middle? The highlights look gorgeous, subtle and lovely, but OMG your nails are so cool :D

Yup, that would be me in the middle, 3 years ago. I still use the same colour, though. And I gained a couple of kilos >_< which I'm trying to slowly get rid of, but anyway. (I don't have recent pics that can be shown, sorry. I rarely get instances in which I'm photogenic.)

Since black nail polish has become sort of a cliche for rockers and supernatural-fascinated people (not to mention vampire wannabes), I started using dark blue one. Not very often, especially since my nails get ruined 60% of the time in spite of nail conditioners, but when I get them long enough... *smirks and moves her fingers like feline claws*

I should say that this is a more accurate picture of "the real me"... hiding under that nun-ish mask. *cackle*

I have a good collection of nail polishes (though I use black fairly often - it's surprising how rare it is among business consultants!), but I don't have a dark blue colour like that. Gah. Want :)

My collection isn't so great, but I normally use just a transparent coating. When I use polish, it's always an occasion - and people are bound to stare. *remembers when she did the light pink base/black outer coating and everyone thought her polish was peeling away*

I ran out of that dark blue one a year ago; since I had received it from someone in Germany and couldn't find it in Romania, I had to settle for a lighter blue. It was from L'Oreal Jet Set - 'Cosmic Blue', if I remember correctly.

I'll look for it around here, then :) My nail polish habit are similar to yours - I think my most successful party combination was Oriflame's gold (very metallic and somewhat grainy, like gold paint) over charcoal grey, like aged gilt steel. If it hadn't started peeling three hours into the ball, I would have been completely happy.

:) OOOOOOO! Sounds very nice! (Yeah I know the Oriflame gold, we have both Oriflame and Avon around here.)

A layer of transparent coating on top of the finished result will seriously help delay the peeling. *nod nod nod*

Oh, I used that - Avon's Diamond speed-dry top-coat to be exact. I think the problem is with my grey polish, it's a cheap Polish brand that everyone else says is good, but for some reason it just never dries on my nails, even after six hours.

I need to put on more nail polish once I finish the internship :>
