Meme from fannish5: What 5 storylines/movies have caused you the most frustration?

1. The Coldfire ending, a moment that is so Out Of Character for my two favourite characters that it's physically painful. As evidenced by the fact that apart from the story I posted last night, I will write at least two other ways of fixing it.

2. Van Helsing. It'd be a decent movie if not for the vampire spawn, really.

3. Buffy and Angel, later seasons. Such great ideas, so bogged down in blind alleys.

4. Anita Blake, the whole ardeur thing and the wereleopards. Really, if someone just gave Anita the right amulet to contain the ardeur and shot Micah for good measure, the series could be salvaged. Jean-Claude needs to get on the phone to Edward.

5. Underworld: Evolution. It's not a bad movie, but... gah. If they went down the political intrigue road, it could be so much better with just a little effort.

*looks at the above* I'd ask what all these fandoms have in common, but it's really a no brainer this time.

Definitely agreed on Van Helsing. Methinks Sommers was just trying to fit as many monsters in as he could and hey, what hasn't been done yet, but would be really cool? Ooh! Vampire babies! *twitches*

Buffy/Angel the later season - I think I'm one of the few fangirls who loved them :) But then, anything that has Spike being souled, but not in the exact-replica-of-Angel way, as done in many, many many bad fics, makes me happy. I loved Season 7 insane amounts. Loved it. And not just for that episode where the crazeh Spike is all topless and draping himself around a cross... although that was my favourite scene of the season.

It's just... gah. If Vlad had been after anything else it would have been fine, but that was just too Alien.

Oh, I like souled!Spike plenty on Angel, especially since he remains himself. But the few Buffy S7 episodes I've seen seemed just bogged down, repetitive, and let's not mention Angel S4 and the latter half of S5 :/ It's like Joss had neat ideas and then went oops when he realised where they led. Not so good on the follow-through.

The Angel thing definitely wasn't Joss' fault. Poor guy had a huge arc that wouild probably have covered a couple of seasons after 4-5, but they were told they were being cancelled while filming five, so all arc plans went out the window.

As for buffy, he planned to finish with the end of series 5, but the network renewed and he was like "aw, crap". Mainly because he was working on 2 oth shows and had to leave his minions running Buffy and they made messes. For the most part, the networks are asshats.

I wasn't so keen on the vampire babies thing either - they made my skin crawl in a way that adult vampires don't.

See, I liked the vampire babies thing because 1. I figured Drac was doing it to keep the ladies happy (and I like Drac/Brides) and 2. college conditioned me to read Frankenstein as a treatise on scientific ethics in an s.f. setting rather than a horror novel, and I think it leaves room for good fanfic explorations.

Wereleopards belong in yaoi. Nowhere else.

What I minded most was the way they looked, with these cocoons and everything. While I agree Frankenstein's sf, Dracula is pure horror reaching to the deepest darkness in the brainstem. SF shouldn't enter this particular equation.

I'd agree to keep Nathaniel, solely because he's such a lovely uke, but that's IT.

I haven’t seen Underworld: Evolution and the last seasons of Buffy and Angel, so I can’t comment on them, but I agree on Van Helsing and Anita Blake. The vampire spawn are stupid, ardeur is the worst plot device ever and MICAH MUST DIE.

What I totally don't get is what Anita sees in Micah, really. She's got the magnificent dream-guy that is Jean-Claude, Richard with that tantalising mix of guy-next-door and dangerous beast (when he's not being an idiot, that is), Asher for the angsty tragic fallen angel thing, and if she's in a topping mood there's Nathaniel and Damien. What the hell does she need Micah for? :/

Meh. The idiot wereleopard should keep out of my vampire film noir romantic comedy, really.

#4. Actually, Hamilton was a good writer in the old days. IMO, her new book Micah was better than the last. I think she's coming back as a writer. However, I'm not happy with where the character is going. I wish Blake had stayed with the vamps.

I read the first few Anita books in one breath, giggling all the time and making faces each time Richard appeared. I loved the humour, the light-heartedness and seriousness at the same time, and the fact that Jean-Claude was so outrageously stereotypical vampire and brilliant at the same time. Plus, Edward's whole concept was brilliant. But after Obsidian Butterfly, I just didn't recognize Anita anymore.

As long as she gets out of the hole of writing all sex, all the time, I might give them a try sometime. But not Micah, because I hate Micah with a passion.
