FIC: The First (Star Wars, PG)

For shoiryu's birthday, and for once within my deadlines ;) 333 words on Anakin and a white dragon.

THE FIRST

Time: 32 years before the Battle of Yavin
Place: Tatooine

Feel: heat, fading.

The desert gives it away as fast as it takes it, and that is why with a few exceptions of so-called intelligent life, walking the desert is done from sunsfall to sunsrise.

The chittering, fast-moving creatures with their screaming metal and their tools and their pain-sticks hide in their homes from the darkness, and that is another thing that She Who Roars likes about the night.

Her claws spread over the sand. She carries her head and her tail high as she descends the slope of a dune. She smells metal and smoke: the chittering ones were at it again. They left one screaming machine on the bottom of the slope, and in a spasm of anger She Who Roars swipes at it with her tail. The fragments bury themselves in the sand.

There is a chittering creature lying next to where the screaming metal was. A not-a-Tusken, she realises, small and sweet-smelling, and-

Alive. He struggles weakly to his knees, and she waits for him to scream. She thinks she won't chase him if he runs. The smell is sweet.

Then it changes. Her head, her mind, her thoughts. There is curiosity and amazement, joy, tension, uncertainty. Sadness, as the not-a-Tusken's yellow-haired head turns towards the ruined machine, and back to wonder as a small hand stretches to touch She Who Roars. Like a nestling's tongue smelling her snout, she thinks, and she wonders if the little one has a den-keeper waiting for him.

Awed and bewildered, she bends her head towards the sand.

"Has he ever been injured?"

"Not as much as other children his age," Shmi says. "Though I'm worried that he hit his head when he crashed his pod in the last race. He told me he saw a white krayt dragon bow to him."

Master Jinn does not smile. "What's so strange about that?"

"There are no white krayt dragons."

Oh wow. Oh, that is just so pretty. And gives Anakin some depth, as opposed to erratic bouts of "yippee!".

Ooh, do write more! I would be horribly disappointed if you didn't. You take what Lucas managed to do weakly and make it such a lovely, shiny thing :D

As for me, I'm a big fan of kiddie!Luke :) And middle-aged!exile!hermit!Obi-Wan :D

(And I really need more star wars icons)

Tangent to yesterday's discussion, Lucas is another creator with much better ideas than execution, I'm afraid :)

Kiddie!Jinn is occupying me lately, as soon as I get assorted Coldfire people out of the way. Am tempted to just give everyone heart attacks and be done with it...

Apocalypse is a good way to leave a fandom for a time ;) Gets rid of all those pesky characters and gives you a clean break :D

Also, I'm starting to wonder when Luke became one of my favourites.

My ex-vampire has just reminded me that due to various factors, despite both him and his two troublesome descendants having inherited the condition, only one of them is right now capable of actually having a heart attack. Pesky canon logic :P

I'll have a root through my boxes and find it :) I did have a copy, which I lost, then replaced and then, of course, the original one resurfaced amid my chaotic mess of book boxes.

I'd be eternally grateful :) Most of my double-copies are from incidents where both my mother and I buy the same book without being aware the other already bought it, so all of them are Polish. Still, if there's anything at all I can do for you, don't hesitate to ask!

Actually, a friend came up with the theory that Kermit, determined to escape Piggy, became a Jedi so he could use the chastity excuse for avoiding commitment and he retired to the swamp after years of keeping himself alive and becoming the supreme froggy overlord ;)

Ooo-hooo! That goes with my Anakin-rides-a-unicorn story!! I love it! It makes perfect sense a white dragon would only walk about at night, especially on a world with two suns.

Is the lady dragon naturally telepathic, or is Anakin broadcasting without thinking? I could see the dragon being naturally Force-sensitive.

Tell the mental image of Anakin of Pern to go away. Hee-hee! :D He has a name that doesn't hyphenate well - An'kin?

LOL, I don't think Anakin would fit too well on Pern ;) And in this one, he's broadcasting without thinking after being knocked on the head. I don't blame the dragon for being confused, really...

Anakin would fit well on Pern in that he'd make the world's most reckless dragonrider ever. A bronze dragon of course... and he'd attract the most bold hatchling of the group. Anakin would be the first person to 'port his dragon off-plant to other worlds. :D

I have a sequel to the unicorn story stuck in my brain - Tanoki is not a creature to simply give up on someone because they claim to be a Sith Lord. Kerynn would like Qui-Gon Jinn in that they much prefer the balance of the Force and not plunging off into total light or dark.
