Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Okay, I know I'm desperately late - it premiered a week later here, and last week I was too vamped out to give it justice. But it was worth it. The rhythm, the humour, the visuals - best Potter movie so far.
Oooh, and brilliant actors, too. And costumes. Mmm, those red Bulgarian Yule Ball uniforms...
Another visual thing was how they used Snape. He doesn't have many actual scenes, but he's always there in the background. Especially the thwapping students with books scene - utterly brilliant. That moment when he rolls up his sleeves is perfection.
I'm miffed about some cuts, in particular the World Cup thing - Cissy! - but I know they were needed. And the lack of Lucius the Family Guy was more than amply rewarded by the cemetary scene - Jason Isaacs is so earnest, so wild there, it's given me a ton of plotbunnies. Another piece of the puzzle that is Lucius-in-my-head falls into place.
(Although, who's with me in that Voldemort is waaay too yummy for a despicable Dark Lord? And Barty Jr wasn't anything to scoff at, visually, either.)
I was surprised how much I liked Viktor Krum. I think it might be a factor of my NaNo, or rather that my male lead is a mildly broody, chivalrous, commanding and broad-shouldered Eastern European guy. The way Viktor orders Rita out of the tent, or how he welcomes Hermione at the Yule Ball, those moments showed traits my Kirill shares. And the Bulgarians in general were brilliant. Gah, for all my foreign tastes I know that if a handsome Balkan fellow was interested, I'd let him sweep me off my feet any time ^_^
I was suprised to like the humour in this one so much, but they nailed it. The twins were a riot, ferret!Draco was all I thought he would be, McGonnagal's dance lessons were wicked, and Krum's fangirls almost made me fall out of my seat :D
Oh, and did anyone notice that handsome dark-haired extra in the Wizengamot? He's only in one shot, but I swear my ears twitched. Long dark hair. Could it be HP's answer to Figwit? ;)
Now I should go and read everyone else's reactions, but I fear digging through 2 weeks of back posts is uneconomical :S

Date: 2005-12-04 01:48 pm (UTC)Fiennes made me see Voldemort as this tragically deluded vampire archetype, damn him, with Lucius as his fanatically loyal lieutenant who's suffering inside because of the deception he needs to practice. Both of these are big hot buttons for me, so even with the delicious twins and the fact Daniel Radcliffe's shaping up to be drop-dead gorgeous once he's fully grown, I'll be rooting for the Death Eaters over here.

Date: 2005-12-04 01:57 pm (UTC)I hope whoever they cast as Bellatrix will be as brilliant as her fellow Death Eaters. *__*

Date: 2005-12-04 02:17 pm (UTC)I'm not sure who I'd want as Bellatrix, but she'd have to be seriously intense. Still, with Ralphdemort, you can see where her devotion would come from...
