Today's Mary-of-the-Herbs, but also the Polish Army Day, so there was a grand parade and ceremony, with the President and all that jazz. And a drill demonstration among other things. While the soldiers drilled, which always reminds me of Broadway-style dancing, the marching band played a medley of soldierly songs. First Brigade to Poppies of Monte Cassino to Warsaw Song to- Wait a minute.

The Imperial March. By the Polish Army marching band. During a national fete, on national television.

^_^

In other news, yes, I'm back. My mail program's on the fritz, so mail-answering might be short. And tomorrow I need to go back to work :/

He actually got deposed partially for spending all his time on Poland (which frankly mattered to him a lot more than Sweden did) rather than on Sweden and us. Well, that and he was Catholic and really unpopular with the Protestant nobles.

So Duke Charles, a rabid Protestant, took over as King of Sweden.

Of course, Charles then tried to force Klaus Flemming, governor of Finland, to submit to his authority. Flemming wasn't too keen on the idea of committing treason and that caused this huge civil war thingy.

While I understand that it's a nifty march and the poor fellows must get bored of playing the same things all the time, did NO ONE think of the connotations of having your military march to the bad guys' theme music?

One of these featured JPII getting out of a plane... to the Imperial March.

Uhm, really? Good lord, what is with the people picking the music?

Last time something similar happened in Spain, it was when at the 2003 Davis Cup in Australia they tried to play our national anthem, but insted played the Himno de Riego, which was the anthem of the Second Republic (and nowadays used by people who oppose monarchy).

We all got some laughs at it XD

This is why I love my friends list. Holidays I've never even heard of.

(The Imperial March was the recessional at my high school graduation. Half the class was left wondering why the other half was screaming with 'oh-no-they-didn't' joy.)

Hi there

I came across your journal via Google's Image search for Gabriel pics. I just wanted to praise you for some very excellent icons. Do you mind if I rave about your icons on my own LJ and perhaps yoink one or two of them?

I'll understand if you don't want a bunch of strangers checking out your icon page.
