"We need a bigger trailer," Sands said, tipping his feet up on the dash. He groped around till he found his Chiclets, then tossed a handful back, like how he'd used to take aspirin.
Kate squirmed and bounced in her seat. If she didn't sound like she was about fifteen, maybe Sands would've told her also to pull over and deal with that damn fight-buzz before she plowed them into a ditch. "Why didn't he look surprised?"
"Who?" And maybe the adrenaline was getting to Sands himself, because he didn't do more than crunch through the hard crust before he started spitting the Chiclets, one by one, out the window. There was some scavenged debris beneath his seat that he could turn into stakes. It might be a good idea; having two men bang around in the shower was only going to keep Kate distracted for so long before she noticed Sands' hands were twitching. Smart chickie.
"Your friend." She put that special eye-wiggle into her voice for Sands' benefit. Cocky fucking chickie.
Sands made a face and sat on his hands. "El is more like my personal baggage. I'm just waiting for a shitty enough place to chuck him out at. Anyway, to answer your question--it's in his contract. Cannot act surprised at anything or he'll get thrown out of the Badass Club."
"Must be the club everybody wants to get into," Kate voice-grinned. "Seth is awfully interested in the shower."
Somebody grabbed the doorframe and stuck his heavy breathing into the driver's cab. "You know, I can hear you two perverted bastards."
"Like I said, we need a bigger trailer. Not enough room to sleep, unless we squash those two in the bathroom." Sands put his own, far superior voice-waggle into the words. He could practically feel Seth's blush as the other man retreated.
"It would be easier to clean up in there," Kate said thoughtfully, and suddenly Sands thought maybe he should've been paying more attention to Kate's personal growth. Because that hadn't sounded like no damn fifteen-year-old.
