That was really good. I'm not sure that the Romanians were impaling people historically though. I know that, from the resources I've read, Vlad learned the impaling torture/death from the Turks by watching it happen in his politically imposed imprisonment (that his father and brother put him into).
But that question aside, your story was amazing. It implied so much without directly saying anything and that made it all the more beautiful. The pain in Van Helsing...having to kill what was obviously his friend, implied-lover. Wow. Talk about angst. I love angst.
I have an interesting thought though...I wonder why, if the writers and director intended Van Helsing to have been of angelic origins...to be the Hand of God, why didn't they call him Michael instead of Gabriel? After all, Michael is the warrior, Gabriel is the messenger. And with the image of Michael defeated Satan (sometimes depicted in the form of a dragon), why not name the main character Michael? Symbolically it makes more sense. But that's me...and that's more just a rambling thought than really having anything to do with your story...which if I hadn't said enough, is amazing. Thank you.
Oh...oh...
