Vienna, part 6

The less said about the past week, the better. An infection retreated just in time for work to hit me like a ton of bricks. Fortunately, the next two weeks will be a lot of work - but at my own pace, and on my own, too.

Meanwhile, here are a lot of pictures of very, very pretty butterflies from the Vienna Schmetterlinghaus.

Oooooh, pretty flutterbys. I used to watch them for hours as a kid. Cotton wool dipped in honey-water mix was great for getting them to land on your hands and feed. :)

I should have known that during my visit to the Schmetterlinghaus. I must have wasted a hundred megabytes on blurry photos while trying to capture the ones who flew frantically all around us :)

If you don't have nice treats for them, and a lot of patience, the best way to get them on film is to look for the nectar-rich flowers that offer some "camoflage" from predators, or for larger open spaces in direct sunlight where they like to rest and sunbathe. Approach them carefully, without getting too close or casting a shadow by them.

Or alternatively, use a really big lens. ;)

The butterflies are lovely.

"Schmetterlinghaus," on the other hand, sounds like a very obscure curse word.

German words have that propensity in general ;) Though it's a pity the site's so sparse - the shop was gorgeous and I got too many enamelled butterfly boookmarks.
