Plus there's the fact he tends to divide people into enemies and friends, rather than underlings etc. He works to gain loyalty and then gives his trust in turn - he's really quite boggled when someone betrays him, though then he decides the person is just being terminally stupid and thus unworthy of anything except a stake.
