I think I might just be lucky to have seen La Mala Educación (Bad Education) on the big screen here. Because between teh gay and the irreverence to clergy, I can't see it having a very long run.
It's a lovely sorta-kinda film noire with a guy instead of the femme fatale. Vintage Almodóvar, really. There's a very interesting formal twist to the story-within-a-story, since we're watching it as it's told, but we later learn it's the movie that was made based on that story. The themes are mainly passion and gender identification - common for Almodóvar, I should guess. But there's another theme - abuse by a priest - that's new.
Caveats? I don't think most people on my friendslist will have problems with male nudity and man-on-man action showed, but the child abuse by a priest and teacher can well be a squick. As can be two boys aged 12 or so exploring their sexuality together.
But otherwise, highly recommended. A terribly well-made movie.
