This is how you build brand loyalty
Apr. 24th, 2004 05:50 pmWhen next I, or someone I know, will want to buy a brand-name fountain pen, my first thought shall be Caran d'Ache. Why?
A word of introduction is needed. Christmas of 2002, someone wanted to buy me a fountain pen: nothing too expensive, but decent. I chose a Caran d'Ache Equinoxe model. The company is best-known for its pencils (the Russian word for pencil is "carandash"), but they also make fountain pens. Mine has a lightweight ecru resin body and a medium-fine silver nib. It's immensely comfortable - light, thin for a fountain pen, producing great-looking lines and improving my handwriting.
Two weeks ago it fell from a bench to the floor and the threaded part where you screw the nib into the main body broke off. It remained screwed into the main body, while the nib was separate. I took it to the shop where I bought it, and they said that they could send it to the manufacturer in Switzerland, but the guarantee doesn't cover mechanical damage. On top of that, the Equinoxe line has been discontinued, so no hope of buying a replacement. Other cheap-ish brand-name pens were fat, metal, heavy and ugly.
Today, I got my pen back. They gave it a whole new nib. No charge.
*hearts Caran d'Ache*
I don't know if I posted this yet, but as soon as I assemble 15 icons even I'd consider top-notch, I'm paying up my LJ. No extra icons, though, because that is a waste of money. So far, am downloading celebrity photos for character icons: have found a River Phoenix that screams "Maedhros", but am looking for a Nicole Kidman to match :)

If you have a domain, what is it and why did you name it what you did?
Extenuation.net
I was looking for a one-word domain name that wasn't taken, was easy to remember, and possibly had a meaning I would relate to. "Extenuation" came to mind, though at the time I didn't recall the exact sense of the word, apart from "extenuating circumstances". Once I did look it up, "partial justification" sounded just about right. Plus, it's one of those words most people know, but have to think for a moment to remember the meaning. I've had it for over two years now, and I'm not planning to let go of it anytime soon.
