Writing frustration

I totally should post something Star Wars related, except for the fact that I didn't realise posting my info in

imadra_blue's friending meme would lead to people actually friending me. So. Um. Probably not the right moment to mention the fact I haven't touched Star Wars with a ten foot pole in a long while.

Anyway, spent today trying to fic and failing. Current working-on-them-right-now list, just to motivate me tomorrow at work, because apparently I'm unable to write at home; at this rate I'll be able to write something I want to write around... hm, July?

- miscellaneous Dooku and non-Dooku fic for the SW people on the f-list because I'm feeling guilty

Oh, and on top of everything else I may be able to combine my obligations towards

fyrie, the Coldfire people and the Star Wars people in one fic. But I've a feeling it might get me a wee bit flamed =^.^=

fyrie did it again. The next installment of her Buffy/Tanz crossover killed me even deader. Even if you don't know anything about Buffy or Tanz, if you have the slightest fondness for dominant vampires, for Lucifer's sake read this story.

Also, very like VK to remove himself from the action when he can't retaliate directly.

From beneath his lashes, he watched her return to the table and sit down, as if nothing had happened, arranging a napkin across her lap, picking up her glass of wine and taking a sip. All eyes had switched from him to her.

“Oh, Herbert,” she said suddenly, turning and looking at him.

With a beckoning gesture, she drew him closer. He looked baffled, as if expecting to hear some warning or other then uttered an indignant squawk when she caught his face between her hands and kissed him squarely on the mouth.

(and this is where he babbles something and grabs Spike and runs from the room to reassert his masculinity. Or something...)

So one of the keys to VK's heart is the ability to pwn Herber? XD

(Which makes sense, considering. Herbert's the one person VK's not dropping for anyone, ever, and unless they got along he'd just have to keep growling at both his lover and his son all the time.)

I'll try to have another dying!Herbert snippet ready before you're back.

*grins* If VK wasn't captivated by Dawn before, now he's thoroughly delighted that she's staying. Anyone who can make Herbert fall off their chair in shock is fabulous :D

I'm sure Herbert will see the fabulousness too, as soon as he washes the girl-cooties off ;)

It's the fact that within 10 minutes of meeting Dawn, he gets her in the way that no one in her family and circle of friends does. She's a sneaky and violent little bitch and he admires that :D

Von Krolock pressed a kiss to his son’s hair. “I’m here.”

Herbert’s smile was as warm as always, his eyes as bright – maybe brighter – but the rest of his senses told von Krolock that the situation was by no means good. The smell was the worst of them, rot and decay like a body already disintegrating. Under his fingers, Herbert’s shoulders were frailer than they had been since he had discovered fencing at fifteen. Each breath the boy took was laboured, underlaid with a stifled gasp of pain.

“What happened to you?” The question had been needling on von Krolock’s mind since he had learned of his son’s injury. Herbert could be reckless with horses or affairs of the heart, but with a blade in his hand the boy had long surpassed him. Even fencers with centuries of experience found Herbert a skilled and unpredictable opponent, and von Krolock could not believe another student had beaten him so easily.

“When you’re fighting for someone’s honour-“ Herbert paused to draw a laboured breath, then winced as he shifted his legs to free them from the confines of the tangled sheets. “You don’t really expect him to stab you in the gut when he falls into your arms after you’ve sent the other guy’s sword sailing into the air.”

The hiss came before von Krolock could clench his teeth, the monstrous and human parts of him for once in agreement about the fate of someone who had hurt what was his.

“All false – start to end.” Herbert’s laugh was cut off by a pained moan. “Should know better. Yet such a pretty face.”

*wibbles* oh, poor Herbert! I hope he gets painful and bloody revenge! With lots of pain! (although, one thing I would change would be using 'guy' - seems a little out of place considering the setting)

Oh, there will be revenge. But first, he has to make sure he'll stay on his feet long enough to get it.

I know "guy" is too modern, but I'm not sure how to rewrite that line. "The enemy" perhaps?

Dad not to keen on doing the son-munching? ;)

How about 'your opponent'?

Still in denial and talking about doctors. Herbert's like "Duh, I'm bedridden, not knocked on the head. You find a doctor in Vienna I haven't had over and I'll marry the girl of your choice and father a dozen brats to carry on the family name."

Bahaha! Even dying, Herbie is lovely :) That would be the point where my Herbert would reach out and take his father's hand and just look at him and say "Please, father." and do the spawn-guilt-trip thing that children learn so well ;)

That's more or less what'll happen, plus some preemptive shooting down of arguments he knows VK will raise, like the wretched existence of vampires. That, and he's fetchingly emphasising the fact he's literally on his deathbed, so any dithering had better be quick, kthx.

*bounces* This has me so insanely giddy :D I love the way you write :D

IIRC all you have is VK subtly hitting on Dawn, the kiss with Vittorio, Herbert carrying Spike offscreen and now Dawn/Herbert of all things ;)

If someone had told me two weeks ago that I would have this much written and those pairings of all things... gah...

“They’ll suffer,” his father promised.

“Oh, yes, yes.” Pale lips curled back from white teeth. “I’ll cut them to pieces. If I can.”

“You will. I’ll summon doctors-“

The softest rasping sound of long strands of hair shifting against each other as Herbert shook his head. “They’ve been here. All of them.”

“I’ll find others-“

“I-“ Another drawn-out breath, and Herbert was trembling now. “I don’t think I have the time.”

Von Krolock’s fingers clenched, and for a moment he thought his nails had cut his son’s skin, but the sharp smell of fresh blood had another source. As Herbert struggled to turn in his arms, the sweat-soiled linen of his shirt parted, revealing a bandage streaked with red and brown. At the edge of the bandage, the pale skin was reddened, pulled taut.

“Father, listen,” the young man hissed. “It comes and goes, the fever – late night brings retreat, but I don’t know how long I have, how much time with my thoughts clear enough. Listen.”

*wibbles* Oh, he is so wretchedly, beautifully hot... and so, so sad! And look!, more VK angst! he should bottle it and sell it :D

For a split-second, there was a shocked silence then Herbert plummeted off his seat and landed on the floor, shattering the stillness with the same effect of a rock through a window.

William was the first to laugh, applauding as he did so, laughing so hard that his shoulders were shuddering from the force of it.

Half-rising from his chair, Vittorio peered over the table, a small smile playing about his lips as Herbert’s hands appeared at the edge of the table and the blond vampire pulled himself back to his feet, hastily smoothing his lapels and his hair.

“What was that for?” he demanded, turning a wounded look on Dawn.

Delicately sipping her wine, Dawn smiled innocently up at him. “I have the hot lusty feelings for you, Herbert,” she said, her expression utterly serious. “I want you to know so I can jump you tonight.”

“Dawn!” the Slayer squealed, but was – gratifyingly – silenced by her lover’s fingertips, Vittorio’s amused eyes on the vampire and his lover’s sister.

Grey eyes went round. “Have you ever drunk alcohol before?” he demanded. “Is this some drunken madness?”

Dawn’s smile was as wicked as his could be. “What worries you more? Being molested by me when drunk or sober?” She put the glass down and started to rise. “C’mon! Let’s get to the hot monkey sex!”

Back-stepping, Herbert almost tripped, staggering against William’s chair. “You’re bluffing,” he said, forcing himself to stand his ground.

“Oh yeah?” Stepping up right in front of him, Dawn caught him by the front of his shirt. She raised her eyebrows, cocking her head. “You wanna see me bluff taking your clothes off?”

He stared down at her and – by the fire – von Krolock could see how uncertain his son was. As far as he knew, Herbert had taken but one female lover and it had been a disastrously uncomfortable affair and now, the younger Miss Summers was proving her mettle to her sister, her friends and, above all, to Herbert.

*imitates her icon*

I'm sure VK's doing that too at the moment, only inside, so as not to hurt his son's feelings ;)

He's trying so hard not to smile. Times like this, appreciates the shadows :D I think Dawn might get a kiss on the forehead for this, because not only did she break the tension, but she distracted Herbert enough so he'll stop sniping at Buffy and proved to Buffy that she can take on a vampire and make him run away :D
