Eyjafjallajökull

So, on Saturday I have Ryanair tickets that were supposed to take me to Edinburgh to see a certain bearded Welshman in a certain adaptation of a Victor Hugo novel. I also have a mini-coach trip booked to Skye while I'm there, and generally a week of entertainment all planned. (Oh, and picking up my Maki Ichiro Sayonara Book of Doom). Right now Monday flights are decidedly cancelled - and everything else is up in the air because the bloody volcano is still spewing out dust. I am very, very annoyed.

(On the other hand, according to his Twitter, said bearded Welshman is currently stuck in Egypt... lose/lose?)

As horrible an impact the volcano is having over Europe, I'm still in awe of all the eruption photos coming out of Iceland.

Hope everything sorts itself out soon, and you get your week's break!

I hope your vacation plans are not completely ruined. Hopefully they'll reopen air traffic soon.

I am still much in awe how a volcano eruption can paralyse Europe air traffic and cripple that of other continents to boot. On the other hand, the photos from Iceland are amazing... and I really have to learn how to spell the volcano's name.

As far as I know, planes are now allowed to pass through Polish (and Romanian, actually) air space, but not allowed to land. Or so the TV people said around noon.

*nod nod* I know. :(

And typically, you're coming to one of the countries closest to the actual volcano. YAY.

I don't know my geography nearly as well as I should, but is there a way to go by train? I heard about someone getting a five-thousand-pound taxi from Oslo to Brussels, so I'm in the "anything is possible" state of mind. >_< this whole volcano business sucks balls, man.

I have plague form pragure stuck on my metaphorical sofa due to this - the problem is we can't jsut speedchange his flights for the first available flight becuase they are company-paid and you know how the red tape goes! First FDUb airport was closed... nbow the praggure airport is! XD he needs to go home and I need to go to prague next week - this is etting silly.

It would - if only they weren't more than happy to have him stay over at mine to save money. *snort* the joys of working for a small-ish company....

Yes, how dare nature interfere with our plans! It's very inconsiderate of her.

(It's funny, when you stop to think about it, how we so blithely assume we're the ones running the show on this planet - until Mother Nature gives us a reminder we can't ignore about who's really in charge of things.)

Sorry to hear the eruptions have derailed your vacation. Could you do some last-minute planning for a week of fun not involving air travel? It might make you feel a bit better. You definitely deserve to have a fun vacation!

Nothing wrong with sleeping! Or studying, either. But what I had in mind was more along the lines of a week sightseeing in some place that you could reach by train or boat.

It looks like things are improving a little, though. Germany is opening up airports right now, and I hear Vienna is going to open tomorrow morning. Whether that lasts is anyone's guess, but at least it's not a total blackout anymore.

Drat, I'm so sorry, and I'm so unhappy this is happening! It's SCARY, how this is crippling Europe.
