Forgetfulness strikes

Sickness and general stress are playing havoc with my brain. This would be my excuse for forgetting the birthdays of:

I'd offer apologetic cake, but it'd probably just pass on my plague ~_~

In other news, technology frustration continues. Bought a microphone, but it records abysmally and I can't return it, only exchange it...

Noise and such, so much that you can barely make out the actual sound it's supposed to pick up. Not interference from anything, because I tried it away from the computer, too, and even recording my voice on the balcony comes out barely discernible. It's brand new, so I guess I'll have to go exchange it :/

Indeed, both a.f.p and #afp, where I am more commonly known as Barry R/Barry respectively. :) (Sadly someone had already got the LJ name 'Barry', so I went with the maxim "you are what you eat".)

Wind-blowing static is a good description. The static itself doesn't peak and dip as much as the actual sound "behind" it does - it fades in and out :/

Hmmm, aside from having the gain up too loud I can't think of a common reason for that type of interference that can be "tweaked" away. Is it a laptop, or desktop?

I was around on a.f.p during your "regular" spell several years ago now. (I've been there for well over a decade.) But I too have a life, and some of those "friends" you refer to (apparently), so I tend to spend my time on #afp nowadays, where I can talk to afpers in real-time. :)

Same effect in the laptop and the mp3 player. Of course, what I really want is to get it working with the mp3 player, since the original purpose was to surreptitiously record a certain musical with better quality than the player's internal microphone ;) Ah well, if neither on Friday or on Sunday, I still have tickets to, um, 3 other performances before it closes on October 22nd. (And no, I'm not obsessed at all. Perish the thought.)

I thought it was a reference to "those damn friends of mine, always taking my time up with their happy tales, interesting stories, technical problems, and shiny things, and ooooshiny..."

I've never been on #afp, [...] I think IRC would kill me.

It certainly does eat away the hours if I'm not careful. Thankfully I can just log on at work in the morning, and keep a quarter of an eye on it during the day in case anything needs me.

I'm not sure if it's a fandom/roleplaying convention or a pan-LJ one by now, but generally *puts things in asterisks* is the equivalent of the IRC /performs action. As in *g* or *grins* for grinning, in fact ;)

...you know, I haven't checked if my work blocks IRC. If they don't, that would be amusing indeed. I have to remember to try that on Monday.
