Hotlinking - technical note

Due to a gaggle of MySpacers and Xangers hotlinking to various files from my website, I had to turn on hotlinking protection. I'm still fiddling with it, so tell me if anything's broken - like my moodtheme on your friendslist.

Question: how do you do that? *is clueless*
I've been having the problem too, but I just mess with the folder names every now and then to discourage it.

Google "block hotlinking" for a few tutorials on the .htaccess way. Or if you have CPanel domain management like me, there's a hotlinking blocking tool. But I still have to figure out how to allow hotlinking from wildcarded subdomains - ideally I'd allow any livejournal.com links, but for now I just unprotected the moodtheme and allowed linking from bwinter.livejournal.com and community.livejournal.com. I need to log a support request with the CPanel people :/

I don't normally use my space for hotlinking - because, well, it's not tachnically mine, someone donated a bit of her server space to me free of charge. But I'll look into it and see what I can come up with. Thanks!
