[FIC] Meditations on a Fall, part 2 (Star Wars, Dooku, gen, 3-sentence drabbles)

Probably not the right moment to mention the fact I haven't touched Star Wars with a ten foot pole in a long while, said she. Which was Dooku's cue to look up from watching Gerald and von Krolock play chess, and politely apologise for his neglect.

#26 to #30 of a set of 50 prompts for [livejournal.com profile] 1character, in three sentences instead of one.

26. Garden

The stones on the path in the Senate hydroponic garden are raked in precise, geometric spirals. Each colour denotes another planet of origin. Dooku thinks that Qui-Gon would have seen an imprint of the Living Force even in these patterns, and regrets not asking him about it when it was still possible.

27. Question

Dooku does not treat his movements through the universe as a symbiotic dance. Each movement of the shadows is an attack, a demand. He listens to the Force and the answer comes to him.

28. Text

The first time he sits in the Senate hydroponic garden, waiting for Master Yoda to finish his consultations with the Chancellor, he uses the tip of his boot to write his name in the gravel. Then he scratches out the last two words. He is not of Serenno anymore; he should remember that.

29. Plastic

The smell of burning plastic is even worse than the odour of cauterised meat. It stays within the folds of his cape for hours, almost unbearable in the confines of a spaceship and barely less irritating on open ground. As the head of another Fett-analogue rolls to the side, Dooku makes a note to tell Sidious the clonetrooper armour needs improvements.

30. Block

Step, turn, wordlessly suggest a possible concession for a price. By now, he doesn’t have to plan his movements any more than he plans his negotiation tactics. As always, the Force provides.

I'm reading these in my Tolkien, not my SW journal. :)

However, the sentences are intense and yet subtle, just like Dooku, or at least my perceptions of him. Look forward to reading the rest.

29 made me laugh like a madwoman, for some reason. Perhaps because it's so easy to imagine Dooku complaining to Sidious (since Sidious is Palpatine) that the armor of the clones is shoddy and makes his robes reek?

30 and 27 are a bit disturbing, but they sound like what I imagine Dooku would believe/think.

28 - I'm getting a very young Dooku, yes? *Checking to be sure*

26 is just flat out heartbreaking. I've always thought that Dooku would not have fallen, if Qui-Gon had lived (and since the EU has Qui rather frankly saving Dooku from going Dark Side at least once, in their time together as Master and Padawan, I tend to think that I'm justified in thinking this), and it's things like this that help to reinforce that belief.

9ish makes sense to me. *Nods* Thanks for the clarification. Nice to know my mind wasn't making stuff up there.

*Squees like a fangirl* Let me just add my vote for you finishing that story and posting it to the lj or somewhere else where I can read it!!! I seem to becoming rather obsessed with Dooku of late and for some reason it's next to impossible to find anything that takes the impact Qui-Gon has/had on Dooku as seriously as it should be.

*Rejoices at the news* That is just wonderful news! Can I maybe beg for a holler when you get any of Will to Act up on the lj? Pretty please?

Mmm . . . don't know that community. Will have to check it out sometime this weekend, when not having to worry about RL work. *Nods firmly*

Got here by Jedi News retro and glad I did. Dooku's complexity lends itself to drabbles, I guess, because of his many facets. Could he 'star' in his own long fic? Or do we know enough about him to let him be more than supporting/featured castmember? I remember thinking in AOTC that Mace seemed indulgent of Dooku's resignation and the way he said, "He's an idealist," held no scorn or disappointment at all. Or did that say something about Mace's gullibility? No, that doesn't seem in character for Mace. Must ponder.
