Happy Fat Thursday, y'all

When you're on a diet, Fat Thursday sucks. So I coped by switching my allotted two 200-300 calorie meals to two rose-jam filling donuts and eating a faworek instead of the protein bar :>

I really don't understand how people can eat donuts that don't have rose-jam filling and candied orange peel on top, you know.

In other news, work killed me dead and Gerald Tarrant administered the coup de grace by deciding he doesn't feel like plodding through his conversation with Narilka again, but instead wants the first-time story I promised I'd write for him. Got a 1000 words of it done today, and they haven't even laid eyes on each other yet. Anyone want to take a very pushy muse off my hands?

I offer my deep sympathies. You'd think one would be able to control one's own muses, but it's never as easy as it sounds. Fortunately, my pushiest of muses tend to get restrained by the ones who have been around longer, which certainly goes a long way to explaining why there isn't pages of Marquis De Sade fic on my harddrive.

I think the trouble with Gerald is that he's just my type, right down to his geeky computer-chip-collecting core. And the very end of the books mistreated him so woefully (all being his own fault, of course) that he just has to beckon and I'll come running to fix it.

Honestly. It's like Dracula and Dooku and Anakin and Boromir and Lucius and Alucard and Kraven and Lucifer all rolled into one, with an extra helping of hubris and stand-offishness. What can I do but push his boyfriend at him to make it all better?

(And the boyfriend is part Van Helsing, part Han Solo and most of the time a paladin. Does not help things.)

You'll thank me yet. Or, you know, money back. After the Female Parental Unit is done with them, my editions might not hold together anymore - she keeps clutching them because she does not like Gerald and yet she has to love him because he's her type, too :>

*grumbles* If I start ficcing this, I am going to blame you entirely and send legions of plot bunnies your way. Many plot bunnies! In legions! With good aim! And big, nasty pointy teeth!

(And sometimes, online shopping is insane - I'm only paying 7 quid for the books, but 8 for postage *boggles*)

Put it this way: you read them, and then you can bunny me with Coldfire. And Gerald will make sure I write them, too ~~git~~.

Knowing him, he'll probably evolve a new and improved race of plotbunnies, too ~_~

(Agh. No way you could have gotten them cheaper? I think Amazon does that free UK delivery over 15 quid deal - same money, a few more books...)

Oh! Also, can you drop me a line with where to send your Shadows book to? ;) And would you object to having a couple of episodes of StarGate so you see the pretty I intend to force on you? :D

(As for getting them cheaper, I flailed about on all my favourite online stores and that was the best deal I could get. To get them on Amazon would have been 8 quid each and that was the second-hand editions. I also looked in every book shop and second hand shop in my town, to see if there was a vague chance they were stocked, but apparently, no :-S So, on the whole, it isn't too bad for 3 brand spanking new books. And definitely alot cheaper than importing them :))

...I'm going to regret this, aren't I? And I already have at least four Coldfire fics to write...

(Proof again that Amazon.co.uk sucks, and not only for charging something like 18 pounds per delivery to Poland. I got them at Amazon.de for 7 euro each, brand new.)

*grins* At times like this, I suspect I could probably use an 'But I'm honestly harmless and innocent. Mostly' icon ;)

And yep, that would be my main address because I'm a lazy cow and having msn pop up mail arrivals for me saves me the effort of... well, opening the account unnecessarily :D

(Amazon can sometimes, but not very often, be fabulous for sales etc. I have just found abebooks.co.uk - yay for second-hand and imported book shops online :D I think I've just found where my salary is about to be redirected to)

At least by the time you get and read them, I should be finished with the two most pressing ones. Maybe even a rewrite of another pivotal scene, too :)

I just have my mail client automatically check every 15 minutes, and usually click on "get messages" more often anyway if I know I'm getting LJ comments...

It's always nice to know there's mail impending, isn't there? :) I used to be the same about snail mail as well, which certainly goes a long way to explaining the 50 odd penpals I collected in my early teens :D

I always wanted a penpal, but never got one, mostly because there's always such a long line at our post office ;)

Best thing ever. Once I'm off the diet, I need to remember and buy one from Blikle - they're the best there are, but today it's nearly impossible to get any...

I don't know, there's something to be said for Bavarian cream and chocolate. Or raspberry. Yum.

Although the cinnamon confectioner's sugar donut will also always remain a favorite. :) ~~That and my initial reaction was ROSE-jam?!~~

Eek, blasphemy :P The One True Polish Doughnut is the Blikle doughnut (at least in Warsaw - I expect other cities have their own famous bakeries), which according to today's newspaper should be large enough for three bits, have a walnut-sized dollop of rose jam in it, be fried in really hot lard so that it doesn't absorb it but instead goes all fluffy and brown-skinned, and then iced and sprinkled with candied orange peel. Mmmm. That's the reason Dunkin' Donuts went out of business in Poland.

And rose jam's one of the most decadent things on earth. Actual rose petals and rosewater... damn, why am I on a diet again? :S :S :S

Is that like the UK's Shrove Tuesday?

Yeah, mostly. Only we eat doughnuts (pączki) and faworki instead of pancakes. It's a good day if you're looking for a good bakery/patisserie in the area, since it's bound to have a queue several dozens of metres long outside its doors. We even got doughnuts at work today; cheap ones though - oil-fried, pudding-filled and with far, far too much icing.

Shrove Tuesday, on the other hand, is called "Ostatki" (roughly, Last Day or Remains) and is the last occasion to party before Ash Wednesday.

Well I'd say I don't understand how people can eat donuts at all o_O The stuff looks uneatable for me...

But nonetheless a happy Thursday to you! I shall now celebrate it by eating a teaspoon of rose marmalade, yup :D

Most of them are. But Blikle ones, and to some extent Grycan, Fort Wola and stuff from this one teensy-tiny bakery in Wisla are gorgeous. It's just far too easy to ruin them.

As for diets... I was never good at keeping them. Me bad!

Alas, he has now seized on the opportunity of both schmoop and smut with Damien, and it'd take a crowbar to pry him off. For some reason, Damien doesn't have anything against it, either -_-

I've been on Herbalife nearly five weeks now, and it's usually fairly painless, but it's just not done to go through Fat Thursday without doughnuts. Bad luck for the whole year, I think ;)

Aw, come on. Because it's fat thrursday I ate paczki to my heart's delight. :DDDD I think I ate 4 the whole day - and they were delicious. (*^____^*) And from tommorow I'm going back to the normal diet - I'm so lucky I don't have to count calories or anything~ ^^ good luck!

Quick canon question: what is Novatlantis exactly? The ocean, an isle thereon, the continent? I kind of got confused there...

There's nothing really concrete. Best guess is that it is another continent, or collection of islands somewhere on the way from the main continent to that of the Matrias. Dangerous for ships, seismically very active, and generally not a fun place to be.

It is Jueves Lardero over here, when people are expected to eat fried longaniza... a kind of cured sausage. I pass because I don't like wurst-like foods that much.

I think I prefer doughnuts, overall ;)
