I've always been mildly suspicious of the popularity Jonathan Carroll enjoys in Poland. I didn't want to like his books, though I did read a fair few. The ideas were strange, twisted, making me uncomfortable in weird ways.

I think I was just too young for them. I need to re-read. For now, his blog is brilliant - I've gone one month back and already I've got a page of food-for-thought quotes. (It's got an LJ feed, too.)

I remember being told that he was incredibly popular in Poland but not why - I vaguely assumed there was something in his style or themes that connected with the Poland of the day. I like the concept of a county buying books like they are free sex *g*. The blog is interesting - thanks for the link.

Better than free sex ;) You know the Harry Potter thing? In Poland, it used to be like that with every book, and even now it's like that with good ones. Norman Davis' Uprising 44 people queued for. Umberto Eco and William Wharton are two other authors who are amazingly popular here. And Paulo Coelho.
