...I want a puppy

A friend of mine just got his first dog. It's a six-weeks-old siberian husky, which is a patently ridiculous breed in an apartment in the middle of a city, for someone who does not own a car and studies full-time. But the little guy's too bloody cute for his own good. I dropped by with dog-care books and ended up playing with the furball for two hours :)

I hope little Boris gets good care... damn, the cats'd kill me if I brought a dog home as well. And the only thing my apartment has on his is that there's walking grounds near.

That pup is ADORABLE. *reminds me of a ceramic I once painted* But yeah, keeping a Husky in an apartment is not the best of ideas. Those dogs need to run. They howl for hours if they are confined. My grandmother used to have one in Montana.

Cuteness.

Our neighbours just got a dalmation pup, which Rachel and Poacher are both fascinated by. Poacher is in for a shock when it gets big (it's the same size as him right now) but hopefully when it does Rachel will realise why I'm saying we can't have one.

We really don't have the space for a bigger dog than Poacher, or maybe a beagle, even if we could find the time to exercise something like that between the three of us.

Rachel's talking about exercising the neighbours' dog when it's older though.

Cute! ^_^ If you ever seriously want a doggy go ahead and get something like a dachshund or Jack Russel terrier, all the same cuteness in a package that stays small. I have two dachshunds myself and they're a breeze to take care of (stubborn as hell, but fun and fairly smart).

I have a soft spot for huskies myself, mostly because of this great documentary I saw on dogs (I don't remember in what capacity) one time. As I remember it a Siberian furrier decided to save some time and money by just capturing and breeding a ton of silver foxes (they're the black ones, apparently). The plan worked for a couple of generations, but then the confined foxes began giving birth to dogs that clearly weren't foxes. The newer pups had white coloring along their muzzles and chests, some of them had blue eyes, and they were growing larger than their parents. I swear they looked exactly like mid-size huskies, very cool.
