Eurovision yay

Eurovision wasn't nearly as fun as last year's (the first time I actually voted \m/), but it was entertaining - sometimes in the fun way, sometimes with actual fun.


The French guys apparently had costumes designed by Gaultier. Meh, seen better :P

I think the Ukrainian entry is easier to understand when you know the guy is making a living dressing up as a stereotypical Ukrainian peasant woman and performing in Russian nightclubs.

Someone should tell the Swedish guys that while the song is nice, the glam rock theme was O.o

I was quite amused by the Russians - rock-style girlsband, but they did have fire to them.

Belarussian guy can't sing particularly, but I still watched because his backup dancers deserved to win. Total pros.

The Slovenian girl actually made me gape - song is forgettable though nice, but she has a coloratura soprano and showstopping vibrato.

But I gotta admit my favourites were the Latvians. 7 tenors singing in Italian, what's not to love?


Of course, Serbia won. So? Still was fun to watch all the ways people tried to top Lordi \m/

The French guys' pink nearly killed my eyes. But if Gaultier was indeed responsible, I shouldn't be amazed.

The Ukrainians were on crack, which is why they got so many votes. That, and they have many neighbours.

I did like the Swedish, because they were the only ones who went around bare-chested. And well, it was kinda nice to hear glam rock again. Also, apparently the Slovenian is a somewhat-famous soprana, and I did like her despite the non-rock tunes I usually associate with that kind of voice. (Nighwish has spoiled me...)

I am soooooooooooo glad our guys dropped out of the top 12, because the song was an idiocy, and didn't deserve to be there. Maybe next year they will select a real song, not a drinking party idiocy.

Meh, the Swedish guy really didn't have to body to go barechested for :P And the soprano should end up in a Nightwish-like band, I agree - I also think she'd like that, judging by the aesthetics of her costume :)

Hello! I was looking for Tanz der Vampire fanfiction, found your livejournal and simply loved it. Hope you don't mind that I added you as a friend? I write mostly in Russian in my lj, though.

If I'm correct, Verka Serduchka (Anrey Danilko) started with a TV show where she was spoofing a stereotypical Ukranian train attendant – larger than life, obnoxious and...hmm... well-endowed :) The song she sings at Eurovision actually ruffled some feathers in Russia (lasha tumbai = Russia goobye, some people took it too personally).

I did notice you friended me and was curious :) I'll certainly friend back, though I'm afraid my Russian isn't particularly stellar, so don't expect many comments ^^;

(Although, hey, might practice it :) I've decided to start reading books in the languages I know, and that pile has not only Three Musketeers and a couple of German biographies, but also Master and Margarita. Once again musicals might be of help to me - I just got a DVD of the Moscow Romeo and Juliette, and it looks mighty interesting indeed.)

So you actually speak some Russian? That's cool. I'm sure your Russian is better than my Polish (used to know "Our Father" in Polish and forgot). And I have mostly selections of art in my lj, some articles about Victorian era and some rather silly fanfiction.

Master and Margarita rulezzz! My favorite Russian book, really. Hope you like it - may be we can talk about it once you are done. BTW, they have recently made TV series based on it.

I personally am not a great admirer of Moscow Romeo and Juliette. It seemed a bit to soggy to my taste. Nothing like the Hungarian version :)

Not speak as much as understand ;) I can get through most films and such all right, though, and get a lot of Russian operas, plus read Cyryllic though it takes concentration. And I've actually read Master and Margarita in Polish many times; it's my favourite book ever.

I'm still waiting for a proper version of both to compare :) Guy who sent me the Russian version managed to bollix up the sound on my copy. From the quick browse-through, Tybalt looked interesting, and a lot of the voices (what little I could hear of them...)

:) Yay, definitely with you there! It is trully a perfect book, both hilarious and romantic and very very deep. Some scenes never fail to squeeze tears out of me.

Have you watched any movies based on it? I know there is a Polish and an Italian version, and Webber thought about making a musical out of it but gave up the idea. In Russia we have two versions - more recent TV series that many dislike and an older movie, considered to be really good but totally failing my expectations. Have you seen any of those? I have the older movie on my computer and could try uploading it if you are interested. It was never officially released.

Do you have an audio of Russian R&J? I've actually never seen teh video but the lyrics just did not tickle my fancy :)
