Newest Hollywood rumour

According to today's Dziennik, Michael Bay (Pearl Harbour, Armageddon, The Rock) is preparing to remake Hitcher. As in, the quiet Rutger Hauer serial killer gem that manages to make Rutger terrifying and fascinating and oh-so-heartbreaking at once, with additional UST with everyone around including the boy protagonist. And apparently Sean Bean is attached to the project. As in, Sean Bean playing John Ryder.

I just squeed out loud. I also have a sudden urge to rewatch my Hitcher DVD, much as it makes my skin crawl.

(The director attached only seems to have done videos so far. Here's hoping he doesn't screw it up.)

Ooooh, The Hitcher! Now that was a scary movie. I don't think I've seen it since it came out in the theatres back in the 80s. I had the biggest crush on Rutger Hauer back then.

I saw it when I was rather young (13 or so) and it made an indelible impression. And the fact it was Rutger didn't exactly hurt ;)

I think also, with the director, having only done videos could be a plus or a minus. When Michael Mann directed Last of the Mohicans, he had mainly done music videos, with some TV and I think maybe only one movie--his big plus was that he had worked a long time as a scriptwriter. McG, who did the Charlie's Angels movies and is a very innovative action director, came straight from the music video industry. Gotta start somewhere, right?

Am very curious to see what Sean Bean does with this role. And I think I'm going to have to go out and rent the classic movie DVD now. ;-D

As much as I love the Bean, I don't think he does scary quite as well as Rutger. That man has the market cornered. Methinks its the eyes (btw, have you ever seen 10th Kingdom, wherein he plays the quietly murderous Huntsman?)

Oh, it won't be as scary, but Bean's take on Ryder is something I gotta see. And no, I haven't seen 10th Kingdom. Clearly something that has to be corrected.

I'm a huge Rutger Hauer fan.....
