This is what fanfic is all about

Theresa Nielsen-Hayden on fanfiction. Word, girl.

In other news, am horribly frustrated and generally growling at people. Hence, meme from [livejournal.com profile] gmth:

Pretend for a minute that the only contact you have ever had with me is through my fic. We've never exchanged LJ comments or emails, never hung out in chat or on YM, never talked on the phone or met each other at a con, none of that stuff. The only thing you know about me is the kind of fic I write.

What kind of person would you think I am? How would you describe my attitudes and opinions about real-life issues?

(And on that note, it's probably a good move that so far only two people on the f-list have read my borderline chanfic.)

I'd thinjk you are a well-read, cultured person, with a biting fetish :P

and curses, the rest of the comment got eaten. stupid stray brackets...

I would say that your opinions and attitudes would be liberal, with emphasis on intellectual issues. or soemthing like that :)

Nice article about fanfic. Authors who shriek 'My characters! NO!!!' are just incomprehensible to me. Of course they're your characters duh, they're copyrighted.

Ridiculously clever, well-read, likes the little details. The like of blood, vampires and shadows suggests either goth or repressed Goth impulses.

Would go further, but gah! Class and tutor.

I suspect I would be a goth if I could afford it, just because I adore the fancy clothes. Actually, no. That would be a fib. I will wear anything that flares and sweeps (except skirts, because I have a deep dislike of baring flesh aside from forearms and head) and heck, anything with buckles and chains and clips, because I have a fastener-fixation. Especially anything that ties. I love things that have to be tied up to be worn. So, so much love.

Alas, I can't afford them.

*grins* Should have seen the looks I got when I wandered into a goth-period-costume shop in Edinburgh. The full-length leather coat I always wear got approving nods, then they noticed I was wearing baby blue and pink underneath it with a cutesey picture of Eeyore on my T-shirt ;) I like being a walking conundrum.

Oh! I have to find you the pictures of the two boys working in there. One was a goth Jack Sparrow :D And the other looked similar to Porthos in Three Musketeers :D

It's only small and wee and mainly goth, but it's lovely :) Best one I ever saw, though, was a place called Shock in Gothenburg. Hugh and beautiful :)

That's a great fanfic discussion, I agree - and an uncommonly civil one, too.
