A collection of thoughts

Something from this article about an FBI crackdown on porn sites rings a bell:

the third targeted site, allegedly trafficked in written accounts of pedophilia (or "intergenerational stories," as Susan Wright, spokeswoman for the NCSF, prefers to put it) until the FBI took the site's computers and threatened its operator with obscenity charges.

I'm kind of glad I never wrote chan. And those who do might want to take care. Also, BDSM is suspected to be the next target :/

In other news, Jonathan Carrol continues to be a fountain of creative advice, and he also refers to things simmering on the back burner of his mind. Glad to see I'm not the only one <3

And as far as real life is concerned, I got a package today. I have 20 pages to go in Jill Thompson's Dead Boy Detectives, [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's book is nice and heavy and shiny, and then there's Eroica and Richard Morgan and did I mention I also got the songs-only soundtrack for A Certain Musical and have been playing it non-stop at work? OMGvampiresYAY <- in other words, nihil novi sub sole.

And the idea that 95% of it is gay porn will send them scurrying as far away from the Internet as possible, so I don't think we'll have to worry too much. Here's hoping, anyway. :D

Consensual BDSM is not a crime. When will people start remembering that?

It's the Puritan influence. We can't seem to get it out now matter how hard we try.

Really, the problem these days is that on a state and local level, standards of obscene behavior vary wildly. So when you bring in something like the FBI, which is federal, you've got the problem of what standards to apply. And with our current Administration, the standards seem to be those of the people in Fundie-land. :(

....I thought the last time Congress went on their Big Child Porn Crackdown, they clearly stated that stuff which did not involve real children was ok? Not that chan or BDSM was ever my thing, but I worry when the government starts saying it's illegal to write down something purely from your imagination and show it to another consenting adult.

Which is why they enjoy looking at it so much, I'm sure. Wouldn't mind if I got paid to cruise the net for porn all day. Really, if adults want to make zombie porn and sell it to other adults, and everyone involved in the transaction of said zombie porn is doing so with their legal consent, why the hell should anyone else care what they're doing?

(Just had to use this icon, btw. XD)
