Takayama will always hold a special place in my heart. ♥ If you have the time and inclination, I loved Hirayu onsen, about 30-40 minutes from Takayama by bus. (really lovely trip) and I did the bus tour to Shirakawa-go because it was a good way to make it to more than one village. I think my tour thought I was adorable because I was foreign and didn't speak a lot of Japanese lol

I splurged and stayed in a fancy hotel in Takayama because I was seduced by two floors of onsen.
