I'm told that in Germany, it depends on the region - the Ossis didn't quite get the guilt and memory as beat into their heads as their western counterparts did. Certainly when I was in Köln, those who did mention that, said that it's a knee-jerk reaction to check for antisemitism and make sure none of your actions or opinions are such. But the fact is, primitive idiots happen everywhere, and like I said before, any excuse is valid if an idiot is looking for a fight :(
