Those Hapsbergs definitely knew how to make a good coffin, they kind of say "I may well be dead but you are still going to be in awe!" with a little edge of "... and no it won't be getting moved any time soon."
Glass cases can be the curse of anyone who wants to take a picture of the thing inside it, but they can produce interesting results. Case in point, the hands grasping from the shadows for the crown make a good picture great.
Hey, I was counting my luck they allowed photos at all :) It's a pity I couldn't take them in Schoenbrunn - now that's a combination palace and Addams Family Mansion. I adored the room Maria Theresa practically wallpapered with her husband's drawings.
Not those two - both the crypt and the treasury room shut at 6PM - but the churches are open very late :) I took my St Peter's photos at 9PM and the ones in St Michael's and the cathedral (to be posted on Monday) at 8PM. The darkness in this batch is due to the fact that the coffins are all in a crypt, and the treasury room is very dark, with spotlit glass cabinets for the shiny things.
