Who is your favourite Death, then?
Um. Good question. My default answer at the moment is Máté Kamarás, but then at other times it may be Szilveszter Szabó, or Jesper Tydén, and in weak moments it may still be Uwe, and Stanley Burleson and Mester Tamás are really good, too, and I'm rather partial to the Finnish Death because I've seen him live on stage six times so far and he's great, even if the interpretation isn't my favourite. Death is the only role where I have serious, serious problems deciding who my favourite is.
I haven't really branched out in my listening other than the Vienna cast so far, and parts of the second Essen cast.
Hmm? Which casts do you mean? There was only one Essen production with one recording made of it, whereas there are two cast recordings of the Vienna production. (Bootlegs are a different matter, of course.)
